I work for a large corporation and am in charge of Actuarial Services - the organization has about 500 employees in total that I am ultimately responsible for.

Recently I have been telephone interviewing someone for a senior level position, and she ultimately gets hired. I have her fly in to meet me today in person. Her voice on the phone makes me think I am about to meet a model. I was so wrong.

I must admit she is very qualified, but I was kind of disappointed. How does someone sound like that and look like that?? Instead of going to lunch at the nice restaurant I was going to go, we ended up eating at the cafeteria (which is still nice, and I even paid so no bashing LOL).

Just had to vent!

Ummm,

Shouldn't you be hiring based on job suitability?

Perhaps she's the perfect candidate and will turn the job down when you offer it because she got fed in the cafeteria rather than a nice restaurant. Personally I hire staff based on talent and I am delighted that my customers make decision about working with my company for the same reasons - I'm no Adonis. I also work in a country where there are legal protections to ensure that people are treated that way. Seems like a good thing, but that's just my opinion.

Please tell me this is tongue in cheek.

Really, if you work in the US, I know for sure that kind of attitude will one day get you fired and your employer sued. If you treat female job applicants differently based upon whether you find them “hot,” you are creating a de facto hostile work environment and I promise as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow you will be looking down the double barrel of a killer employment lawyer’s 12 gauge. Not to mention the EEOC. Shit like that on a burgeoning exec’s record can be suicide. Perhaps a weekend with the company employment manual and an hour visit with your HR head and EEOC Compliance Officer would be helpful for the future of your career.

Now, PLEASE tell me that was tongue in cheek????

When you put it that way I'm pretty sure that he's going to say that it was tongue in cheek now :!:

I don't hold my client's hands and have them wear rose colored glasses either.

If I have to have heart surgery and my choice is the best surgeon on earth with a shitty bedside manner or an average surgeon who is warm and fuzzy, I'm going with the former.

But look on the bright side - free advice that could save a 7 figure judgment. :superman:

Considering it is posted here I am assuming it is a bit of a joke. Either way though I know the shock of execting a dime and getting a nickel. I am sure the OP handled the lunch very professionally

I've been selling a Human Resources solution to medium sized businesses for the past few years and a statement like this is highly highly inappropriate and can lead to a major lawsuit for both you and your employer. Women are protected in so many ways under US Employment law; you can hire her and if she feels mistreated in any way because of her physical appearance then you can have another huge issue. I hope she doesn't own a Breitling and finds her way to this thread.

You should just ask for the thread to be deleted because it wasn't funny and questions your character....but as shark said you were just trying to be funny right?

What's been going on around Bsource lately?! We have grown men (embarrassingly) fawning over a mother of three, egging on Archie42, and now this?

Is there a full moon?

I would NEVER hire someone based on looks, but was kind of curious the response I would receive. She is in TX, I am in FL, 90% of our correspondence will be via e-mail or phone.

It was more so some light humor (or humour for you Brits out there) - also, do you really think I expect to see models doing what I do? ACTUARIAL SERVICES! :superman:

Well then, that's that. There seems to be a virus on the boards lately. I've had a touch of it myself.

The only thing I can say about this, is that I have been tricked several times by voices not matching up to looks in my head. Most of the time I am WAY off, either good or not so good... BUT, everyone needs to be treated equally as stated earlier...

:uplaugh: I will admit when I hear a DJ on the radio and she sounds nice I'm always curious as to what they look like. I refrain from looking them up on the internet as I always prefer the picture in my head.
