A pic I snapped of last night's dust storm roaring into Phoenix.

I was in it. Thought I could run down to the gas station to fuel up my car, but it came in too fast. Just a wall of black billows, miles wide and easily over a thousand feet tall. I just jumped into the car and waited out the worst of it. I was joined by about six other cars that pulled in. It's as large and concentrated a storm as I can remember in 24 years here. Essentially zero visibility for about 20 minutes, then it let up just enough for me to see the stoplights 300 feet away, so I took off for the one-mile trip home. It was still a crawl. The dirt collected and swirled on my windshield like snow in a blizzard.

My black car was brown when I got in the garage. I stopped by a self-serve wash on the way in this morning and left the car running, hosed off the engine and the underhood area, which was also caked in dust. Pretty amazing.

Wow, that's incredible.

I'll stick to our snowstorms - that melts!

What do they have to do afterwards - wash down the streets??

The streets wear off with traffic. But it is a really crappy day to be a pool owner!!

Cool photo, never seen anything like that before. And the cactus on the left really adds to the photo.

Perhaps Rob Schumacher (who is credited) hacked Tom's account!

I was wondering how Tom's photo skills got so good. That was a perfectly composed shot with the cactus tree and desert sand...the photo tells a very cool story.

Next time we get rain, what's left in the streets will wash off, but the streets will be slick initially. Otherwise, it's time to hose off the patio and run the pool pump a little extra. Apparently, however, they had just finished a big clean-up of the inside of our baseball stadium in advance of the All-Star Game. That will have to be done all over again.

If you guys are baseball fans out there in AZ and you have a chance to go to the All-Star Game you should...it's a lot of fun. I had a chance to go in 2008 at the Old Yankee Stadium and it was awesome.

I agree, I went to the game in Milwaukee, the one famous for ending in a tie, but it was a very cool thing to see.

It was supposed to say - "a pic snapped last night...." I downloaded it from Yahoo. I couldn' take a pic like that if I got very lucky. And it is from about 25 miles east of my central Phoenix home.
