Cape cod clothes and platinum wedding rings

Post subject:  Cape cod clothes and platinum wedding rings
My wifes wedding rings are looking a bit scratched, can you use cape cods clothes to clean them up? I have used it on ploished watch bracelets before but not sure if they are suitable to platinum

There was a very heated debate on this very subject last year some time. :lol:

IMO, yes Cape Cods are fine for use on platinum as the packaging says something like, "for use on fine metals". The general concensus from people who have used them on platinum was that while they didn't remove 100% of the scratches, it still came up looking loads better than before. Platinum is an odd metal as polishing it doesn't actually remove much material, unlike gold and steel. Polishing platinum tends to simply "move the metal around a bit" as opposed to removing it.

Yes, this was a heated debate indeed. For the record, I never ended up using the Cape Cod on my fiance's ring, so I can't speak to its effectiveness.

It seems that others on here have had decent luck with Cape Cods on platinum, though.

thanks for the info

that thread did get a little heated, will ring around a few more jewellers are see if anyone does it in store - the UK is a crazy place most places want to send it off for 4-6 weeks to get polished up - surley its a 5 min job with the correct tools
