As part of my limited effort to give back to and improve my profession (never let it be said I won’t do the least I can do!), I am a member of the State Bar’s “Member Assistance Committee.” I also serve as a volunteer “monitor” for attorneys who have gotten in trouble as a result of certain underlying issues or simply self-reported due to those issues. They will sign a contract with the Bar containing many onerous provisions, including the requirement to have a monitor assigned.

That’s where I come in. They have to meet with me once a month and I offer assistance/advice, but mostly I am their benevolent cop and submit compliance/evaluations forms monthly.

One of my “monitorees” who recently completed her contract evidently noticed my watches. As a thank you she sent me this amazing time piece. I just don’t know what to say.

A simple thank you is probably sufficient, and probably all that you will be able to manage with a straight face

I've received some cheesy 'thank you' gifts for speeches / presentations / etc, but that beats anything that I can claim.

You know it's common courtesy to wear a gift in front of the giftgiver at least once... :|

On a side note... I've reached 1000 posts! whoo hoo! :boingb: :woohoo:

Tom, you know I always ask to buy just about every watch you add to the stable...that is one watch that I won't be offering to buy  I'll let you enjoy that beaut.

I think that's a very thoughtful, wonderfully kind gift. Can't knock someone for putting thought into a gift.

I am reading this correctly, an attorney give you this? If so Why would a woman that we assume has intelligence buy a watch enthusiast with expensive tastes something so vile. . . . Or is it all in the assume bit. . .

I honestly thought the whole thing was a joke, but that picture really does the watch justice (pun intended).

It has hints of IWC, Glasshutte and Barbie's Grown Up Funhouse. And that's REAL paper!

I didn't realise that it was personalised - that takes it to a whole new level.
