Anyone got any good remedies or ideas for getting a good nights sleep?

I'm a very light sleeper but have terrible problems getting a good nights sleep. I have broken sleeps most nights and reckon I probably get about 6 hours max a night, certainly no more.

I have quite a physical job and do quite a bit of CV and weight excercises most days or every other day so its not like I shouldn't be tired or not able to have an unbroken sleep.

Any ideas.

Cheers

Ive got sleeping problems as well. Im lucky if I can get more than 1-2 hours at a time without waking up. I just deal with it, unless ive got to wake up really early. Then I pop an ambien.

As for OTC options, I hear melatonin works.

Ear plugs do wonders for me. (I even purchased a vibrating alarm that goes inside of my pillow so I don't oversleep.)

You might have already heard of these. I've had friends see quite good results using behavioural methods. Things like...

1. A routine that you follow every single night that "signals" to your body that its time to sleep.
2. Making sure you catch the wave of sleep when it comes. Tiredness comes in waves. If you miss one you have to wait a while.
3. Not doing things like watching TV just before bed (too much mental stimulation).
4. Hot drink soon before bed.
5. Darker, quieter room (or earplugs).

I'm sure there are whole websites out there devoted to this stuff. I think if you can find a drug- free solution it's better in the long term.

I do most of those before bed so have to try and cut them out, thnks for that though.

RJ, I have that exact problem although I don't take any sort of medication, I'm a bit scared of that.

Mfserge, I do that most nights and mornings! :D Happy days!

Cheers

Make sure you're not exercising with in a couple of hours of you're bedtime.

It's obvious but no caffeine in the evening.

People say alcohol helps but the experts say it causes difficulty sleeping.

I know a couple of people that did sleep studies. It turns out the had apnea, difficulty breathing at night.

Like you I have a hard time getting "unbroken sleep" but I finally realized that it's my wife kicking me when one of the kids cry.

I take a supplement called ZMA, I go to the gym a lot and take a few different ones and ty ZMA helps increase your test production and also helps you sleep. I used to wake up a couple times a night but since I've been taking that I sleep like a baby. You should probably ask a doctor first though, I don't wanna be responsible foe killings you.

Another good supplement would be melatonin....It is really cheap and can be found at any supplement store or website. It is all natural, google it when you have a chance

Sodium pentothal, 10mg., IV, qhs. First one's free. What could possibly go wrong?

Seriously, above all else never ever get into bed unless you feel tired. (other than sex, we are talking sleeping, no? That excuse comes in handy to avoid the obligatory excessive cuddling BTW.) If you aren't sleeping get out of bed. The point is, laying in bed and being wide awake should never become associated in you mind. If you aren't falling asleep, get up, read, watch TV, do anything but lie in bed. And stay off a computer. You may as well give in for good if you cue up the internet.
