We live in a really safe suburb. But last night while we were asleep someone broke into our house and stole our wallets, my new Mac Air, my Iphone, my work bag and our camera. They also took the really awesome Breitling pen that i was given for Christmas!

I'm thankful that no one was hurt and i'm thankful that they didn't take more. But I HATE BEING ROBBED!

Time to buy a watchdog...

We had an attempted burglary as well in one of our store. They gained access to a clothing store next door, where they seem to have killed the movement detectors before. From there they tried to break trough the wall of our store, but I have strenghtend the wall with steel sheets (about 2mm thick), and they did not expect that, so they severely damaged it, but could not get through (in 2 hours time!). I was really lucky, as they tried it right behind a Breitling display...

Sorry to hear it. It's not just the things lost and the attendant hassle, but the sense of invasion. I had that once while my ex and I were at work and my the little daughter was at pre-school. They smashed the door frame clear off, went straight to the bedroom and nailed almost all my ex's jewelery. And a used pair of my running shoes! Most of the jewelery was replaceable but the creepy feeling lasted a long while.

Man that is scary. Glad to hear that you and the fam are okay.

Hopefully they catch the guy. Burglers like this usually keep robbing until t hey are caught, so dont be too surprised to hear good news. Years ago somebody broke into my office while it was closed and stole the computers, blank checks, a truck we had parked in the lot, and some other worthless junk. Eventually they caught him because he was doing home invasions, and they found some of our property on him. I had to go to court and testify. The detective called me a few weeks later and told me that it was the guy's 3rd strike (California 3 strikes law) and he got 25 years. Nice.

Very similar circumstances for me Tom. We were shopping (groceries, not Breitlings), after what I dropped off my (still current) wife and drove back to work, only to receive a call 2' later from my wife who, understandably was in a state of shock, than we were robbed. And it was just 2 pm :wowzers . My daughter was 18 months old at the time. They took ALL of my wife's jewelery but not much else. I do not agree with you though that it's replaceable. Sure, as a material thing, but not actually, because several had sentimental value (rings and necklaces of her late grandmother (very old) or from me for ex.) that you can never really replace even if you manage to re-make an exact copy.

But just to avoid that terrible sense of invasion and all the hassle (cops, paperwork etc.), I have since installed a security system. Not cheap but has served us three (3 :!: ) times since. F...ing rubbers tried to get in but run when the alarm sounded and, of course, managed to get away before the cops arrived. Needless to say that there is no chance to get them.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys. You're right about the hassle. We spent loads of yesterday calling banks etc and arranging for cards to be cancelled. Our bank told us that it would be 7-10 days before the new cards arrived. Looks like a period of enforced saving! It'll probably be a few weeks before the insurance comes thru as well.

But the big thing for us is that everyone was safe. We have three kids under six, plus my wife and I; that's what's truly irreplaceable. Its actually left us feeling more thankful than annoyed in the end. As to my watches, well I made sure to put my watch case well out of sight last night; stupid i know, but i couldn't help it.

Then don't wear one. It's not required. :)
