Hi all

Just wondered if anyone else will be in the breitling tents at Waddington or Fairford next month?

May consider it depends on the work situation.

Camping at Fairford on the Friday and Saturday nights, taking in the airshow on the Saturday. Really looking forward to it as it it is my first time.

Can't wait to see what is on display. Oh, and the aircraft should be ok as well I suppose.

Wish you sunny weather guys.

I think the show was canceled a couple years back not because the rain posed a problem to the aircraft but attendees were unable to use the parking lots provided because they had turned into a quagmire.

Just come back from three days camping at Silverstone for the Moto GP. It was absolutely freezing and miserable! The stand we were in had a roof, but the rain blew in full force anyway. I wore more layers than when I went skiing in Finland earlier in the year, yet was far, far colder!

And of course, today it is back to lovely sunny weather. Typical!

Didn't realise you could camp, will look it to that.
What's the deal with drinks in the breitling enclosure? Are the payable or complimentary?

I'm thinking of going to Waddington this year - never been before. In fact haven't been to an Air show for years (Mildenhall 1990'ish!)

Any tips on what to see/expect/avoid would be gratefully received! And is one day better than the other (Sat/Sun)?

Cheers
Mike

Ha ha, typical indeed.

It's always that way.

Waddington is much more of low key affair than Fairford. Probably about 25% of the number of aircraft and attendees. Gates open at 08:00 and you can drive straight in at that time. You park on the airfield so, if you get lucky, you can find yourself in a spot overlooking the display line. With Waddington being home to the UK ELINT aircraft (spy planes), they have had some interesting visitors from their counterparts in other air forces in the past but nothing is slated for this year. The usual UK/NATO Typhoon/F-16/F-18 will display as well as the BoB Memorial Flight (Spit/Lanc/Hurricane), Vulcan, and the Red Arrows. The "highlight" this year is the USAF display team, the Thunderbirds. Personally, I don't enjoy watching them as whilst their precision flying is unquestionably brilliant, the 4 ship tends to disappear whilst changing formation then roll in for a fly by. Contrast this with the Reds, Pat de Frog and Frecce Tricies who keep the action in front of the crowd the whole time. Just my opinion and I'm sure many will love their flying style.

The biggest drawback is getting out when everyone tries to leave at the same time. I usually leave when the Red Arrows start to display to beat the rush.

Enjoy your day and hope the weather stays fine!

If I remember correctly, you get 2 tokens for alcoholic drinks and then pay for any more. Soft drinks/tea/coffee are complimentary.

Biggest plus to the enclosure is no queue for the loos!

Then, maybe it will be our (your  ) last chance to see the Nimrods for the last time as well as the Sentinel before they retire the latter for good.

I'd have been there but my band is taking part in the local festival on the Saturday and I won't be in any fit state to drive over on Sunday morning! Deafening the populous from the back of a truck through the streets is just too good an opportunity to miss
