A sweet video with all the details about the other Blackbird http://www.wimp.com/lockheedblackbird/ I'm sure most of you aviation nuts know this stuff backwards and forwards, but a lot of this was news to me. |

Nice video. I think the BB is the coolest plane ever made. Seems like it kind of ended abruptly..I wonder if theres a part 2. |

A great video, but it does seem like there should be a part 2. It's mind blowing to think that thing was flying around 50 years ago. Definitely one of the most incredible jets ever built. |

That's a cool video of an iconic bird. I really regret its mothballing. ![]() |

Quote: I wonder if theres a part 2. As an enthusiast, I've always hoped the fact that the USAF did not object to the withdrawal of the SR-71 was because it had got something better such as the mythical "Aurora".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_%28aircraft%29 I don't think a Mach 6 scram-jet is likely but there is a detailed report of an unidentified aircraft which crashed at RAF Boscombe Down in 1994 so there have undoubtedly been projects in development. http://www.dreamlandresort.com/black_projects/boscombe.htm Sadly for us enthusiasts, I think the reality is that satellites/UAVs have replaced the need for SR-71 type aircraft and we'll never see the likes of it again. Just glad I got to see it many times in all its glory! ![]() |

That Vid is amazing! If anyone has played Call of Duty Black Ops you can see where they got their footage for the "WMD" mission in the game. |

wow, that's amazing, thansk for the link. ironic that she is 90% titanium and the Ti came from the Soviet Union. Also didn't know about the leaky fuela cells (expansion) and she took off almost dry Pilots have to be married - no time for tom cruise flyboys up there I guess. |

We are lucky here in Kansas that one of our smaller towns happens to have a SR-71 on display in their air and space museum. It is beyond cool to see and TOUCH it! It is, hands down, the coolest aircraft I have ever seen. I do often wonder, given the 50 years later, what are we hidding in the hanger NOW. ![]() |

Could not resist in (re-) posting a classic Sled quote: LAX control tower reported receiving a request for clearance to FL 600 (60,000 ft). The incredulous controller, with some disdain in his voice, asked, "How do you plan to get up to 60,000 feet? The pilot (obviously a sled driver), responded, "We don't plan to go up to it; we plan to go down to it." He was cleared. |
