This is more of a note to myself to never EVER waste time reading comments posted on YouTube! I've actually never bothered to read comments before, but after reading one or two, I developed a bit of a morbid curiosity for it this morning and started reading quite a few........ and I kind of wish I hadn't. The crass, uneducated and simply downright irritating mix of comments almost had me throwing my laptop at the wall.

Watch a review of a clearly genuine watch, and guaranteed you'll have at least 5 people saying, "FAKE", or "My Casio keeps better time than that", etc.

Watch a clip of freediving and you get idiots saying, "Why bother?", or "This is so gay".

Watch a clip of the royal wedding, and before you can say "off with his head", you get comments like, "F*** the British", "You'd be speaking German now if it wasn't for America" , "Meanwhile, in Africa...", and various other gems.

I've come to the conclusion that commenting on YouTube videos is the preserve of those under 10 year olds, the perpetually miserable, the clinically insane, the rabidly racist, the illiterate, the poorly educated, and those with assorted social disorders. Since I don't wish to have huge repair bills due to "impact damage" on my laptop, I think I'll refrain from reading any more comments on there.

Rant over.

I dont mean to laugh Driver, but I know exactely what you mean. For some reason youtube seems to attract humanitys lowest specimens!!! I generally force myself not to read comments, and have deleted many a comment from my videos. The latest of which was "wow nice watches but are you gonna bomb me??!"

Take it from me my friend, let the trolls be!

The one that I always remember is when admin did the raffle that was tied to one of his YouTube reviews to give away some Breitling swag. One of the comments "I'd enter if you were giving away a watch".

It takes all sorts to make the world!

Indeed, it takes all sorts. I saw a video recently by Adam Buxton (of Adam&Joe fame) talking about YouTube comments on a music video made by an Apple Mac fan. It's quite funny, but be warned, it contains some strong language - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx-WBaSNrTQ&feature=player_embedded

Crazy stuff!

That was fantastic. Had me laughing out load also! Thanks for sharing and I agree with D8 about the posts that appear on YouTube. I don't read them either, other than for entertainment purposes and/or when I want to torture myself reading people's ignorance about different subjects. YouTube obviously caters to a much wider audience and consequently you are bound to have varying levels of quality in the postings and the evidence of a "few bad apples".

Nevertheless, that video was hilarious Willows!

It seems the newest trend is to take the number of "dislikes" a video has, and make some cheesy comment about what is wrong with those people.

I have to admit, once in a while I find an absolute gem of a comment that has me laughing my ass off.

:yeahthat

That shows the level of the people making comments. Most of them should have been :banhim:ed. But I guess YouTube doesn't have mods up to the task like BS.

To be honest I've never really looked before and from the looks of it that seems to have been a wise decision  You have to wonder about people sometimes.

I whole heartedly agree D8. It never stops to amaze me of the ignorance on youtube. Most people are that post the stupid comments have no clue. BUT every one in a while there is a post that borders on comic genius. I recently was watching a vintage Van Halen live performance video and one of the idiots posted a comment about how much greater Sammy was over Dave. The next comment made me laugh out loud. "Sammy Hagar is the Ronald McDonald of rock and roll!" :)

It must be the hour and the fact I'm up to my neck in work I'd rather not be doing, but that video had me laughing so hard I was crying. Literally.

Youtube comments have been the great shame of the Internet for years.* Every now and again I read a few, only to remember why I vowed I never again would. The irony of this video is the comments below it - people who feel they are in on the joke who nevertheless proceed to make asses out of themselves with idiotic comments. And so it goes. Oh well, without them, we wouldn't have had this video.

*For those who would counter that porn is the great shame of the Internet, I think you're confusing great shame with what makes the Internet great.

I actually read comments on videos, articles, and such pretty often. Part of it is the entertainment factor of reminding myself how many idoits there are out there and sometimes I can find some insight. In order of worst to first....

YouTube comments are just ridiculous and you start to think that the internet should have an age limit. Kids these days are just flat out odd. Anybody who has played Xbox Live with a 12 year old knows what I mean. These little snots are both idiotic and crude.

Yahoo news article comment threads are pretty ridiculous as well. Yahoo has even begun disallowing comments on particular articles because of these Yahoos! (pun intended). Everything no matter the article brings out these faceless commenters. Most are just uninformed and uneducated but feel like the should include their two cents, although I wouldn't say many are worth that.

Wall Street Journal news articles usually have very well thought out comments and inspire some pretty healthy debate. I find that if I am unfamiliar with the topic I can sometimes get as much info from the comments as the story. Most are pretty well versed on the topics that they comment on, and are expected to provide references or run the risk of getting called out.

I know this is not groundbreaking stuff here as obviously the commenters are not the same demographic, but nonetheless not all comment sections are interesting in their own right.

I never comment but will usually read the first couple of pages if I have the time. And just to remind us all what kind of dopes there are out there who shouldn't have DSL I have included this clip.

Remind me to remove that from my list of things to do before I die.
