Hello, I personally would recommend You to move further to Koh Tao from Samui. Samui is too crowded with tourists. Almost like Phuket. Instead of Phuket I would recommend Koh Lanta. Very beautiful Island where only the northwest is touristically crowded. Otherwise I can congratulate You on Your decision to fly to Thailand, as it is a really beautiful and interesting country, and in difference to the rest of southeast Asia (maybe except Singapore) they have hardly health problems, a very good health system and You can move around without beeing mugged or robbed on the streets. (There are a few thiefs, but mostly coming from Pakistan at the moment). Your timing is a little bit bad. It will get very hot in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. December to March is way better for going there. BG Thomas Oh, I forgot: Everything You buy there as a tourist is way overpriced, so be careful and haggle. Try not to pay more than the third of what they initially ask for. Usually its worth only a quater of the original price, but it gives them a good feeling to have earned some extra money from a tourist. Sawadi! |

thanks for the info, we looked at ko lantra before phuket but as its the rainy seasons most of ki lantra closes down (or so i have read), ko tao does look nice and we will spend a night there. we have choosen quite small laid back resorts to get away from the busy parts |

I was in Thailand about 8 year ago, beautiful country. We spent 4 days in Koh Samui which was brilliant, plenty to do and see. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the hotel but it had two main buildings which were both shaped like a boat with a pool etc between the two. Nice place to stay which was a bit more upper end but still only around £25 per night for each of us. The hotel was on the main strip at one end of Chewang beach(I think thats correct spelling). If you're in Koh Samui then be sure to take a short trip to Ko Pangnang which is a smaller island just north, stunning scenery! It's renowned for its full moon parties but we didn't bother with that. Very peacefull and beautifull island. We hired mopeds and went for a tour around, some great beaches there. We stayed with a British ex pat out there who owns Rainbow Bungalows, brilliant hospitality and rooms right on the beach!!! Bliss. Cheers |
