The other major interest/ fascination i have is Bonsai. I often wonder what connects watches and Bonsai; is there something they have in common which draws me to both of them? I think it might be that they both combine aesthetics and skill/ craftsmanship. Both of them are something you can simply admire for their beauty or explore all of the thought and skill that goes into producing them. What other interests do you guys have? Can you spot a connection with watches? |

I love to play golf, but I refuse to wear a watch while I play...so I can't see any connection there. It's actually funny when you think about it. A lot of professional golfers are endorsed by major watch brands, yet I can only think of 1 player who wears a watch EVERY time he plays...Phil Mickelson. |

A lot of people I know are "in" to this or that, but very few go so deep as to explore the intricacies or history behind any of it. I think its just a certain type of personality that tends to explore and delve deeper into the "how" and "why" than to just take something at face value. |

I love boxing, but there's no connection to watches at all. It's pretty much the only time I'm not wearing a watch, at least when I'm awake. |

Is precision the shared idea behind watches and golf? Both horology and golf are obsessed with repeated precision... they attract a certain sort of person maybe? |

Just as there is the casual golfer who goes out and does what he thinks is best, there is the person who likes nice watches and leaves it at that. On the other side you have somebody like me (and maybe you) who cares enough to study the golf swing to understand it better, and likes a watch not only for the way it looks, but also for the way it works. How many golfers do you know that dont read golf book? How many people with nice watches couldnt tell you a single detail about the movement like manufacturer or power reserve? I think its just a different type of person. Both can have completely different reasons for having the same interests, as well as a completely different investment of themselves in those interests. |
