Since I am now blessed with ESPN HD coming down the magic cable, I can watch as much American football as I can handle. Question is: just how long does bowl week last? Seems like it's been going two weeks already, and the tv is telling me there's more coming up on Monday (Sunday your time). Or am I not getting it live?

No...you are getting them live Otto. It seems like every year they drag this out as much as possible, but I can't remember the championship game being this late before. The college bowl system is screwed up. There is no playoff system, and most years the "national champion" is a source for much debate. They need to take a hint from the NFL and start playoffs within 2 weeks of the final regular season game.

On a side note...I do think that college football does get some things right that the NFL should take notice of. The overtime situation in college football is MUCH more interesting than in the NFL and gives both teams a chance to win the game.

You're right Otto, they do drag it out as much as possible (lots of money involved). The whole thing started back on December 18th. It begins with some smaller bowls and teams, which in some cases, may even have loosing records and are usually unranked in the standings, and it culminates in the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) "National Championship" game between two undefeated teams, Auburn ranked #1 and Oregon #2 on January 10th.

So the granddaddy of them all has been played, but now there is the National Championship game coming up.

I did notice the different extra time rules in a game I watched the other day (think it involved the Razorbacks, but could be confused about that). It wasn't what we we would call here 'golden point' (NRL term, ask Russell Crowe).

Overtime (extra time) rules in college are different than overtime rules in the NFL. NFL is sudden death - first team to score wins. In college, each team gets a possession.

Now let's confuse matters even more - the NFL will be using NEW overtime rules for the playoffs that begin this weekend. New rules (which I still haven't fully grasped):

Both teams must have the opportunity to possess the ball once during the extra period, unless the team that receives the opening kickoff scores a touchdown on its initial possession, in which case it is the winner.

• If the team that possesses the ball first scores a field goal on its initial possession, the other team shall have the opportunity to possess the ball. If [that team] scores a touchdown on its possession, it is the winner. If the score is tied after [both teams have a] possession, the team next scoring by any method shall be the winner.

• If the score is tied at the end of a 15-minute overtime period, or if [the overtime period's] initial possession has not ended, another overtime period will begin, and play will continue until a score is made, regardless of how many 15-minute periods are necessary.

As for the college bowl games, basically any sponsor that wants to cough up a few million $$ can host a bowl game.

So, we end up having meaningless games with (mostly) mediocre teams playing before Dec 31, followed by some big name bowls (Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange, Fiest) that usually feature some of the better teams, followed by a few more crap bowls (my beloved BC Eagles will be playing in the "Kraft Foods Fight Hunger Bowl" on Sunday), followed by the national championship game on January 10.

And remember, the Rose Bowl is the "Granddaddy of Them All" not because it is the championship game, but rather because of it's history (dates back to 1902).

Yes, college football needs a playoff system. Unfortunately, there is too much money at stake which doesn't help to move it forward.

Bowl week is actually Bowl Month. The bowls start out with the crappy teams first, then once they're all out of the way then the BCS Bowls start which are the big bowls. The final bowl is the National Championship Bowl. I hate college football because of the Bowl Championship Series; I think it's a bunch of bowlshit....i mean bullshit.

The use part of a golf course that I play at as a parking lot for the Rose Bowl every year (and every other game that gets played there throughout the year) and it screws the course up. Good for people that need parking. Bad for me.

Course 2 since it seems to be the only one that has good deals for booking online. Cant beat $39 for a weekend. I play where my dollars take me lol.

Don't know about the online deals, since I've never done it before, but I've noticed that on average course 2 is a bit more readily available for faster tee-off than course 1. God I miss playing...
