Post subject:  Which wine with turkey?
I know it's a bird, but my selections are all red. I'm choosing between four: a Beaujolais Nouveau (this year's, obviously), a 2009 Beaujolais Village, a 2007 Oregon Pinot Noir, and a reserve Pinot Noir from the same vintner, 2005 vintage. I wasn't originally planning on having the 2005 reserve, but in light of its age, I'm wondering if I should drink it while the getting's good. Thoughts?

Actually, I would chose between these three:

Domaine Sigalas Mavrotragano 2007, Domaine Kyr-Yianni Dyo Elies 2007 or Domaine Driopi Nemea Reserve 2006.

I did not mean to hijack your thread but I prefer Greek wines. I know, they are very little known and hugely underestimated.

If you can imagine, there are over 300 (yes, THREE HUNDRED) different local grapes in Greece, except of course those imported like Pinot, Cabernet etc. And I know, from experience, that very few people are willing to try Greek wines because, in general, they do not have a very good reputation. But once you try some, you are so positively surprised that you want to try some more. Not that all Greek wines are good of course but the progress made during the last 15-20 years is really astonishing.

Interesting information, and possibly useful for the future. I'm always up for trying something new. However, for tonight (it's Thanksgiving here in the states), I am limited to the wines I have in my possession at the moment, which include the ones I named. But since this thread isn't exactly brimming with responses, I'll go along with your threadjack. Being in Switzerland, I imagine you can come by Greek wines somewhat more readily than I can here on the west coast of the U.S. I'm not sure I've even seen a Greek wine in the shops here. Spanish, yes; Italian, of course. But not Greek. I'll ask around, though. Thanks for the idea.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that current distributors are located between Chicago, New York and Boston, so no wonder that you have not seen any Greek wines in your area. Where exactly are you located?

Of those, I'd vote for the reserve pinot.

Never had an Oregon pinot, but if they're anything like the pinots we get out here, then yes I think it's probably time to drink that one.

Good call; that's the one I went with. Oregon Pinots are excellent, and the Willamette Valley in particular is recognized as one of the few regions in the world that can be mentioned in the same breath as Burgundy for truly outstanding Pinot Noir. This one tonight was definitely one of the better ones I've had - not at all past its prime, and a great complement to the dinner.

Excellent. We don't see much US wine out here, but I might come across some one day, and i'll be sure to try it. Never hurts to add another scrap of info to the memory bank!
