Just wondering. I got into single malts four years ago. And man, do I LOVE scotch. To quote a great man:

Anyways, I've been sampling from all over Scotland and my favorite malts have to be from Islay. I love the peat...

One of my favorites now, not very well known, the 12 year old Bunnahabhain. Just delicious.

As I type this I am enjoying a nice class of Highland Park 18.

Now you're talking! I love a good single malt. If you get the chance you have to try Glenfiddich Gran Reserva. It's a 21 year old single malt, and is fantastic, albeit fairly expensive. You can pay anywhere between 70 and 90 GBP for a bottle, but it's a seriously nice drop.

The best I've ever drunk though was Laphroaig 30 year old. £35 per measure in a bar. :shock: Me and a rich friend of mine enjoyed a couple each a while ago, and it's truly superb..... as I guess you'd expect for that price! :lol: A bottle online is around the 400 GBP mark - way too much for me, but worth a measure or two for a treat if you can find a bar that sells it.

Had the 30 year old Laphroaig for the first time in Aberdeen in the early 90s - very special.

I used to work in Tunbridge Wells and at the time there was a Scotch Whisky store in the Pantiles about 2 minutes from my office (don't think that it's there now) that had all kinds of boutique whiskies - great place.

Now in Canada the options are more limited but the government controlled LCBO is bringing in some better options - trying to decide between a more sensible Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or or an outrageously expensive ($349.95) Glenlivet XXV for Christmas.

I really fancy trying the Laphfroaig 40 as well, but at £1500 GBP per bottle I think I'll be happy enough to go without! :shock:

That Glenlivet should be a nice drop as well Roff. Not tried it myself but I should imagine it'd be a beauty. I've just checked and it's 170 GBP over here.

Geez, and I thought I was drinking good stuff by keeping Oban 14yr in the house! Nice choices gentlemen.

I personally tend to reach more for bourbon, but my wife has been slowly turning me onto scotch.

I enjoy scotch, whiskey, and rum. I enjoy having a cigar with any of the three.

When I really want to tie one on, break out the tequilla.

My tastes aren't too sophisticated yet... but I love anything from the UK...

Dewars, Johnny Black, Johnny Blue...

Us Asians love the Crown Royal... from our lovely neighbors up north... It pretty much was the official drink of bottle service whenever we used to hit the clubs... and of course when you're young you do some dumb stuff by overpaying for something that'll cost wayyyyy less at the store/market. :lol:

Good to see some folks like their scotch as well. I'm a bit surprised by the love of Laphfroaig, strong dram Laphfroaig. Like I said, not a lot of people I come across flock to the peaty type of malts from Islay. I rather like them. I'm a big fan of Ardbeg, Lagavullin and like I mentioned before my new favorite Bunnahabhain. Looking at Speyside, I recently enjoyed a bottle of 18 year old sherry cask matured Macallan...was rather expenssive though here in Canada $245 @ the LCBO. Other malts that come to mind from Speyside that I've liked Benromach 21, Aberlour, Longmorn, Speyburn. An affordable dram that will not disappoint, Balvenie 12 and Dalwhinnie 15. Actually, it was the latter that got me introduced into scotch just as Breitling introduced me to the wonderful world of watches.

Now, the important question: how do you gents take your scotch? :?:

You guys are awesome. Finally some people that understand. Not only about watches but about the finer things in life as well.

Recently what I started doing is letting my malt breath a bit in the glass, then tasting it str8 and only then adding some water. I echo Driver8's comment...no tap water hahahahaha

I find the water opens it up and you can notice a difference on the nose and the pallet. If you haven't tried, I suggest you do. You'll be surprised...

I drank about a bottle a week of Glenlivet in college, and now I drink about a bottle a month. I try other stuff, some of which is better. Glenlivet 12 has my favorite cost/taste ratio. (It's $30 in the US.)

Who would be uncouth enough to run tap water over a good glass of scotch?? Sounds like something a person with a fake brand of watch would do..
