Post subject:  An observation about BreitlingSource

It's just dawned on me what I really like about this forum - well, just one of the many things I like about this forum actually - it's the fact that it attracts people who are either already knowledgeable about Breitling watches, or those who wish to become knowledgeable about Breitling watches and are prepared to learn. What we don't tend to have here are fools who think they are the world's greatest authorities on the brand, but actually know nothing at all......... and that is a very good thing IMO.

The reason I mention this is because I've just spent a good half hour reading an extremely long thread elsewhere (and no, I won't say where!) where people were discussing the perceived pros and cons of Breitling watches, and some of the posts both amused me and irritated me in equal proportions. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I don't dispute that for a second, but when people are spouting "facts" that are actually completely wrong, or making the most ludicrous and unsubstantiated statements about the brand and the watches, I can't help but find it quite annoying. I was almost tempted to sign-up as a member to set a few things straight!

However, instead of that I just ploughed through to the end of the thread, sighed to myself with a resigned shake of the head, and then came here to post this!

So, keep up the good work guys, as everyone here makes this place what it is! (I'm going all misty eyed now. )

What is it about the human spirit that compels us to torture ourselves with other people's stupidity? I do this (reading things that I know to be inaccurate and thus, irritating) all the time, and even when pressed I can never come up with a good reason why.

That aside, I completely agree; I've only been posting here a short while, but I find a good number of members are extremely knowledgeable, and moreover, they're friendly and helpful to those of us who aren't, and want to learn. Too many internet forums are secretive and elitist, as if knowledge is some sort of finite commodity that must be hoarded, so asking others to share theirs is some kind of cardinal sin. There's none of that here, which I really appreciate.

+4. This is the best forum by a mile. Great folks, some very knowledgeable people, and **gulp** good moderators.

There are 2 other forums I belong to but spend maybe 5 minutes a week there. This is a wonderfully helpful site. I came here 11 months ago as one of those guys who didn't know the 8-3 Rule (I know!! I'm so ashamed  ).

To a large degree there is true comraderie here. And most, including me from time to time, don't take ourselves too seriously despite the :guns: and the :poke: and even the :nana: .

Damn it! Where are those tissues?? :boohoo:

Can't really comment on the knowledge levels here, but I have found that by making a lot of stuff up and posting it a lot people end up believing my posts - pretty cool really

I gotta agree with you Driver, I hate when people on a certain other watch forum start spouting off crap like it's gospel. I think one of the reasons that doesn't happen too much on here, whether it's about Breitlings or any other watch brand for that matter, is when someone does try to do that they are overwhelmingly put in there place by both members and moderators who really know their shit. :guns: I also love that while we may disagree on some things and even though it can get a bit heated sometimes we all, for the most part, respect each others opinion, no matter how wrong they are. :poke:

Too late. I rented a helicopter and had my first annual Thanksgiving Boxer Shorts give-away.

I swear by all that is holy, I thought pink boxer shorts could fly!
