The girlfriend and I ventured out during the storm and I took a few shots I wanted to share with everyone. It was really an awesome sight to behold and I got to experience thunder/lightening in a snowstorm for the first time! Thundersnow!

Some in-storm shots:

The next day there were very few people in the city so I took a few "after" photos before heading to the bar with friends.

Nice pics, thank you for sharing. Wish you this is the last thundersnow of the season

Looks like the city coped pretty well - I'm impressed given the amount that you guys got

Authorities are taking some flack here in Toronto because everything was cancelled / closed / etc and then we onlly got a few inches.

I got hit harder up at home with some fairly serious drifts above waist height, but not as much actual snow as you got. It's certainly been a snowy year so far though!

My first experience of thundersnow was at Logan airport in Boston - had a planned 20 hour trip to Boston and ended up spending more time at the airport trying to get out than the trip was supposed to be.

I'd agree. With a grand total of 20" on the groud Chicago put forth a serious clean-up effort - there were dozers, plows, and dump trucks running from 3 am Wednesday onward. I saw a line of dump trucks moving the snow out of the city on my way to work on Thursday.

Snow around here is old hat. Back East this kind of thing is truely crippling.

Reminds me of the storm we had in NYC just a day or two after Christmas, that had a short spell of thundersnow too, quite impressive when lightning lights up a blizzard sky!
