Getting Married in NJ on 9-10-11 and starting to look for some nice places to visit. Here is what WE are thinking that isn't TOO far away.

Aruba RIU (huge)
Aruba Bucuti Beach(small and ranked Top 10 in the world apparently)
Cabo: Zoetry

We are not trying to break the bank on this, I would say 5K not including the flight(2K First Class).

Anyone ever been to these places or suggest places within Aruba or Cabo. I would be interested in others opinions on other places however, please remember that in September there are also hurricanes there for Aruba is nice because its much farther south of them and Cabo basically never gets touched.

Opinions please! :D

While I haven't been there a couple of people I work with went to Aruba recently and they absolutely loved it. Either choice would probably be pretty damn fun.

Aruba is awesome. I have been many times and still love it. There are some great places on the northeast coast of Brazil that will make your jaw drop. Fortalezza and other places that I am dying to return to.

Brazil may seem like a little much for her(not me). She (FOR SOME REASON) is stuck on Cabo and some of the Southern Caribbean islands.

If anyone has any places in mind from experience please let me know.

PS. We also would like something more adults only and All inclusive would be nice too i guess.

Just remember that if you go with the Caribbean, you have to keep your fingers crossed because it will be smack dab in the middle of hurricane season. On the flip side, if you luck out on the weather, you end up scoring on the crazy deals that you can find for the islands that time of year.

Jamaica - I've been to Grand Lido Negril twice and Couples once. They are right next door to each other, beautiful beach. Both are all inclusives, no kids. Food, booze, and service at Couples was fine, but Grand Lido was over the top. If you can get a good deal, go with GL. Some people have safety concerns with Jamaica, but if you're staying at a beautiful resort, and it's an all inclusive, then there's no reason to leave to resort to go to some bar or out of control market. The beaches at the resorts in Jamaica are private, so you don't have to deal with people harassing you all day trying to sell you trinkets, or braid your hair, all the while the 6 year old that's with them is cleaning out your wallet that you "hid" in your shoe. The only person selling stuff is the guy that runs his skiff along the beach all day. There's a net about 75 yards off the beach, and he runs his skiff along the buoys all day. Swim up to him, and he'll sell you some, um, er, stuff.

St. Lucia - Been to Sandals, beautiful island, beautiful resort, great service (not as good as service at resorts in Jamaica). Only downside is that the beach isn't private, so you deal with people walking up trying to sell you crap all day. Much safer feeling in St. Lucia than Jamaica, but it ends up taking a while to get there. Usually have to go thru Puerto Rico, then take a twin prop for 3 or 4 hours.

St. John - LOVE St. John. Been 4 times. Beautiful island, always feel safe. Always rented villas there. They can be a lot less expensive than you think, especially offseason. That being said, you have to rent a car, and you'll need to buy food/booze. Large markets on the island to buy stuff, but we've also brought food/booze down. There are some great restaurants on the island, and typically we eat at the restaurants half the nights, dinner at the villa the other half. Cooking on vacation sounds strange, but, grilling/eating filets on the villa's porch as you watch the sun set behind St. Thomas is pretty friggin' sweet. If you go this route, let me know and I can suggest some websites, villa rental agents, and some specific villas.

Mexico - post-college, I've only been to the Riu Palace in Playa del Carmen. Insanely beautiful all-inclusive resort, huge, beautiful beach, fantastic food, but my wife and I both got sick.

Personally, I wouldn't do the Carribean that time of year. I'd book a week in Napa/Sonoma instead (wine, spas, fantastic food, can't go wrong)

Where about in Jersey are you tying the knot?

By the way....great choice of date...you can never forget your anniversary date with a date like that. I have a very similar sequence as well.

Thank you for your thoughts....that is why we are thinking Aruba though due to it being far south of the hurricanes.

We got very lucky with our date of 9-10-11. Actually it was all by accident because it was the only one available at the time and didn't realize how the date read for a few minutes after we signed the paperwork lol. We are getting married at the Carriage House btw. Ever here of it? F'n Gorgeous!

First of all congrats on the forthcoming nuptials, mrcheatle! I'm actually getting married in Cherry Hill, NJ on 10-9-10.

My fiance and I were initially planning to do something in the caribbean like you (we had heard that even during that season, the southern islands were still a safe bet). We have ended up choosing something of a Napa-lite if you will - we're going to be headed to Watkins Glen, NY in the Finger Lakes wine region for our honeymoon. We figure that it will be significantly cheaper and this way we will be able to save up for a European/tropical vacation or something in a year when we aren't locked in to a certain time of the year.

Grats again and trust me when I say that this next year will be here and gone before you know it. We got engaged 7-16-09 and I still can't believe we're only 16 days away now.

Congrats to you as well! My Bday is 10 10 so I remember to drink a beer to that as well! :D
I think we may take the chance on the southern islands and go from there!

I'll just gift you my world as a wedding gift... :lingsrock: You better be serving Lobster & Filet.

Trust me, the last thing you'll be doing on your wedding day is talking Breitlings....the day is so hectic, it flies by in an instant. 18 months of planning and it's over in about 6 hours. Take a moment on your day with your wife and just soak it all in because it's over in a jiffy. Best day of my life!

PS. I WILL TAKE YOU AND YOUR WIFE OUT TO ANY RESTAURANT YOU WANT FOR YOUR NAVI WORLD! lol
