Post subject:  UK to USA Shipping

I have a query about shipping a watch from the UK to the USA.

I recently sold one of my Breitlings on ebay which was bought by someone from Texas. I have looked into the cost of postage and cannot find any company which will ship it for less than £70 insured. I have obtained a number of on line quotes for around the £30 figure but this is without insurance. The buyer claims that it should be possible for a maximum of $50 and I'm not suggesting that he's wrong on this but I can't seem to find anyone that can do it for this amount; e.g. DHL Economy is around £35 but this figure does not include insurance. Royal Mail Parcelforce quote £97 but exclude watches from being insured.

I sold the watch for £1,250 and this is the amount I have stated when looking for a quote.

I would welcome some ideas from UK forum members who have sold overseas.

Thanks for your help.

Discussed here. No idea of the costs involved.

Apparently there are companies in the States who will insure 3rd party packages in transit. There's no such thing as that in this dump of a country (i.e. the UK), so you may have to get your buyer to arrange insurance for the package at his end.

I had the same issue with DHL, UPS, Royal Mail and Parcel Farce (sorry, I mean Parcel FORCE) myself. As it turned out I found a friendly post office worker who insured it as if it wasn't a watch, and luckily it arrived in the States without incident. I don't know what would've happened if it didn't arrive, but I was too fed up dealing with this country's pathetic courier services to care any more!
