Could not let this one lie...

I plug my poofphone (3GS, the one that works) into the Mac and get an alert that there is new OS update for 3, 3GS and the 4. Being a paranoid I do read the T&Cs.

'Minor update to correct signal strength bar display'

Almost wet myself.

Yes. This is actually old news. It is all over the net. They said the formula they were using to display the amount of signal bars has been wrong since the original iphone, telling users they actually have more signal strength than they really do. This mean 3 things.

1. Apple is saying that when the "death grip" is applied to the iphone4 it really isnt loosing all that signal b/c the formula is showing too many bars to begin with, resulting in a visual drop of 2-3 bars but really the iphone4 may only have had 1 bar to begin with so the drop in calls b/c of the "death grip" is only making the phone loose one bar which is normal effects of antenna on cell phones from human contact.

2. Number one is bullshit to me and just a way to cover up until they can or cannot possibly fix the problem correctly.

3. Number one means that AT&T service is actually even worse than we all thought it was. The formula is showing us more bars than what we actually have? Now being an iphone user since day one of the original has anyone else ever thought...wow I have more bars than I really think I should right now?? I dont think so.

I canceled my order on the iphone 4 till Apple gets their shit together. BTW free bumper cases now. All well in good but I dont use cases I hate them and now I hear that the free cases are on backorder. Only 250,000 cases have been made and over 1 million iphone users have put in their request for a new case.....What an f'ing mess!

Im not sure if it applies here, but I remember reading about how our phones work in the sense that the phone needs to communicate with the tower, and then the tower need to communicate back with the phone. I guess its more in reference to why your phone can show bars when it really has no signal available, and its because the phone is strong enough to communicate with the tower (hence, showing bars), however the weaker tower signal cannot send anything back so you really have no service.

RJ3. THey could tell us there are little people holding up the bars to the screen like in Fenway park when the manually post the inning by inning score on the old scoreboard and we would have to believe it. They got us all by the balls when it comes to technology especially something as disposable as a cell phone.
