Anyone here into buying/selling shares etc.?

I have a mate that's quite into it and seems to manage to make a few quid. I know its a gamble wether or not you do well and your looking more mid to long term for gaining out of it.

Also some of my friends have a share club going, more a social thing than financial but they get a kick out of it.

Just wondering what your thoughts were.

Cheers

By buying shares if you mean purchasing stocks on the exchanges? If so, yes I do it for fun! I make a few dollars here and there, but nothing crazy... I'm probably up on average about 30%+ yearly. Lately it hasn't been so good though and the recession was not good to me.

Hi

Yes I trade regularly, not always successfully but mostly up.

I like the Naked Trader 'style' his book is well worth a read, trading in plain English.

I had my first takeover share this last week Dimension Data (DDT)

My current holdings are

DDT
Domino Printing Sciences
Domino Pizza
Microgen
Microfocus
Renishaw
Spirent.

Bought and sold

Lo-q
European Gold
Dart Group
Booker
Fenner
etc

I have about £23k I play with and take profits when required to buy watches!! lol.

Get the Naked Trader book, it will be the best few £ you will ever spend.

Yep, I do quite a bit of this. I have full service brokerage where someone manages the majority of my money but then I keep some to play with myself on Scottrade.

I don't do it full time or even part time by any regular means. My best of the last few years was an ETF pegged against the DJIA. I bought in at $21/share and sold for $51/share about 9 months later. Buying Citi at $1.10 proved rather profitable too but that was easy pickings!

I have found in the last year or so my financial plays have been doing rather well.

Have to say I am having quite a good time of it at the mo.

Spirent up well today and a cracking set of interims from Microgen too.

Now that's good advice! Never buy on tips, always do some of your own research.

I have been dabbling in and out of the market for some time now - trading through discount brokers of course. I tend to disregard all the so called expert advice and just do my own thing and stick to a couple basic rules. It's become more of a hobby and don't take any wild outrageous risks. Any money I put toward watch purchases comes out of my short term trading profits - that's how I justify it to my wife anyway!

And yes, be careful to whom you give market advice, just when we think we have it figured out - wham!

Happy trading :D
