So Im looking for a nice digital camera and have no idea what to look for.

Currently using a Canon Power Shot SD790 IS Digital Elph.. Still a nice cam!

I have seen some amazing shots on this site so figured I would see what some of you have to say.

price range up to $500 give or take

any ideas???

I was looking for something similar last fall and ended up with the Fuji Finepix F70 EXR and I'm really happy.

I am far from a good photographer, but I used it for all of the pictures in this thread - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19883

@E3 Not really up to date on compacts but you'll have to search hard to beat your SD790. Great little camera.

If you are talking DSLR, a friend of mine who is a photographer recently recommended a Canon XS or XSi to another friend of mine looking for something in that price range. The Nikon D40 is another perennial favorite but I think that ones around $600.
