Traveling to the USA right now, and let me tell you guys if you are EVER in the position of having to travel across the globe always book a transit flight that stops halfway! My last trip to the US was Riyadh-London Heathrow- Houston, this one is Qatar-Houston and all I know is man was not made to stay in the air for so long!

The pressure and sedentary state is a real killer on the body! Plus I am a smoker so the fact that it is a non smoking flight is another pain!! Makes me think of those pilots who have to do this flight twice per week! God!

I was just telling Tim via PM that being Saudi Arabian adds to the anxiety when flying, what with the new security measures I am NOT looking forward to my cavity search!

I keep consolidating myself with images of the watches that are soon to be in my hands! My first Audimars and UN!

I know your pain. We just flew to the Philippines in November and it was a 17 hour flight from Atlanta to Tokyo...with a 1 year old child!

OK you got me with the kid!

What class where you flying? I always fly coach as I feel it is a waste of money to fly anything else, but on any flight longer than five hours its always business. My knees hurt just thinking about being crammed all that time.

coach was $2500.00 first class was $9000.00, even when we used my wife's airlines miles. We discussed it but it was WAY too much money.

Wow that is significant, a nice watch difference! I get a corporate rate for business class so it was a manageable 1000 difference.

I live in London but regularly go back to Australia to visit family - 24 hours isn't uncommon, although the 45min stopover in Singapore helps a little.

Door-to-door can be up to 35 hours.

I feel your pain too, everywhere is a long way from down here!

Last long flight I did (Gold Coast - Osaka) was only 10 hours but it was Jetstar economy class... which is definitely a category below economy class on full-service airlines, but the price was right. And being 6'1'' with long legs (not to mention old knee injuries), I wedge nicely into the seat.

our trip was 35 hours door to door with driving time included. I had a great time there but don't look forward to doing it again antytime soon. I can barely stand a 3 hour flight.

I fly from Salt Lake to Austin frequently and I complain about the 3.5 hour flights!

I've been pissing and moaning the last 3 days over flying from Phoenix to Philly and back with only one day on the ground. It seems I rarely fly these days but for funerals and weddings. Any flight longer than 2 hours and it has to be first class. At the 2 hour mark in coach I start to have murderous thoughts. Don't even ask about 3 hours. At least in first class I can stretch and get real meals.

I can handle 4 hours in coach, but anything longer or crossing the pond I burn frequent flier miles and upgrade one class. Personally, I would never spend that much money for the upgrade. I'll take restless legs and save $8000.

Just think...Seven years ago there were people spending that kind of dough one way, for three hours on Concorde. :boohoo:

5-days short trips, coach class Singapore - LA and back, once in June, once in July, again end of this month, and prob once more in Dec...

On a related note, anybody knows what to do with 100,000+ UA miles? Useless for any free ticket (no redeem travel available despite 14-days travel window), no entire-itinerary business-class upgrade available (only offered Singapore - Tokyo leg, with $400 co-pay in addition to miles used)... Can I sell them?

Abandoning UA for good -- trying Cathay this trip, which a couple of different friends have gotten free biz-class upgrades WITHOUT ASKING FOR IT

My air miles are directly redeemable for any dollar amount through my banks travel agency website. Prices are basically identical to Orbitz and the other guys with no blackout dates or advance notice. 1.75 air dollars for every point (so 25,000 points = $437.50 in airfare) which works out great for inexpensive flights but not so good if I want to go first class since there is no flat rate.

BTW, how is it that there is no travel available through UA?
