Hi Gent’s

Well it's 5 day's since my lasik eye surgery.

This is not me in the video!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-TUMw1FTmY

Anyhoooo. for those who are interested!

The op takes about 3 mins a side and is a bit like a trip to the dentist. You get a follow up examination on arrival, so they can check the details they have from your initial consultation.

You then go in and see the surgeon, he does another quick check, then 10 mins later you are invited in for the procedure.

So you get a natty mesh hat and lay down, a nurse pops 4 or 5 eyedrops into the old sockets and they move you into position, you feel pressure on your eye and the odd squirt of fluid, see some lights and hear clicky noises, a faint smell is noticeable. (No comments of ANY nature apply here I know what you are thinking.)

One eye done, you get moved across to the next side, same old thing, except you feel more pressure on the left eye for some reason, it's an odd thing as it's that way for most people.

Then you are done, in and up on your feet in less than 10 mins.

Into the next room and given some eyedrops to take home and use. also some neat eye goggles to wear at night for a week....mmmm

So does it hurt!!!

The op did not hurt in the sense of OUCH just more uncomfy.

After, you have to wear sunglasses as you are light sensitive for a while, there is some stinging for sure, well I definitely got some....and it was a bit sore to be honest. I think taxi for 20 mins and then 90 mins on the train was not the greatest way to travel.

So, I went home took some painkillers and popped in some drops. and drifted off to sleep for a couple of hours.

I got up at 10, so 5 hours after the op, and could read immediately, even quite small text....I could not read a pc monitor before without my specs!

Next day, clearer still and no need for any kind of optical assistance I drove to Brighton, 27 miles, for my checkup.....all good!

Day 5 I had a check up this morning and got a 20/20 pass.......AMAZING!

Still taking eyedrops no pain at all and it's great.

Although I keep trying to push my glasses back up my nose and end up just poking my forehead....prat....

So I have to say if you are thinking of it, it's worth popping in for a free consultation at Optical Express and if you go for it ASK for a discount.

I got £600 off just by asking. Ended up having the top treatments they offered including waveform. £2580.00

Thanks for that Davey!

I have toyed with the idea a few times as I have been wearing glasses / contacts for 30 years, just never really sure.

I've recently found that in addition to being shortsighted I am also having trouble reading so facing the prospect of bifocals

May be time to look at this a little more seriously.

That's amazing. I had no idea it was that quick. Can you read the B-1's slide-rule now?

Not sure if I would have it done though. Were you told about any side effects? I've read stuff about halos around lights at night and flashes of light etc., but not sure how accurate that is. That video...

I had PRK done in 95 and lost a day and a night recovering from the discomfort but I still considered it well worth it in both time and money ($5K AUD).

I had my 14 year top up done with LASIK in July of last year and I was comfortable enough to head straight out to dinner and cocktails following the procedure.
With private Health and splitting the billing across 2 financial years my total out of pocket expenses were $500 AUD and petrol money fropm Canberra to Sydney for a result better than 6/6.

Seriously if you've you've been thinking about it do your homework and go and talk to an experienced operator.

My family's like a walking Lasik billboard, with 4 of us having done the "surgery" about 7 years ago.

As I understand it, the procedure itself is done by computers. But when things go Murphy on you -- that's when u want the best eye surgeon doing the job. This explains why some volume eye centre charges US$500 per eye, but my doctor charges US$6000 (sorry no group buy or family discounts...)

The minute I sat up from the operation chair, I was asked to read the clock on the wall (alas, a Seiko, not Breitling ;)), and while it wasnt't clear, was quite amazed I could see the time!!

Different people recovers differently. Mine was quite smooth. Almost no pain even during recovery, unless sweat gets in ur eyes (in which case it feels like acid). So no sports for a while. Also was told no swimming in the ocean/scuba for the first YEAR.

On the other hand, my wife still experience glare at night, though that might be from preexisting poor night vision? My youngest brother had to have "corrective" additional surgery abt 6 months later.

My wife and I both did it 3 years ago. This is the best thing we ever did! We look back at old pictures where we were both wearing glasses and ask ourselves: Who really are those people?

Amazing and absolutely NO side effects. We absolutely don't even think about it any more. Its like we never even did it in the first place....
My eye surgeon even accepted monthly payments for 12 months, interest free! Just doesn't get any better than that :cheer:

Best part? Seeing everything ever so clearly at the beach 8)
