Post subject:  what brought you hear?

I have been wondering what various members here would say when faced with this question for a while, but I figured why not hear from everyone. What brought you to join this forum? Was it the love of watches or was it more? For me it began as a place full of watch porn as I like to call it, but soon became a lot more. I have found some very nice people whom I love to chat with and hear from and a place however virtual it is to kick back and take in loads of information. This place has given me somewhere to go where no one seems to care whether your black white or whatever which is the way the world should be and it never closes with a sign saying come back tomorrow . What has it become to mean to you?

That.
I needed some information on my watch and I couldn't find it any place else. I'm glad to say that I not only found the info that I was looking for but found a really great bunch of guys and a very nice place to relax and hang out.

Back in 2007 when I joined (just a couple of days after Driver8) this was a much smaller place and it was an immediate sense of community and an opportunity to discuss and share a passion for something that we were really all learning about. It seems weird, but less than 3 years ago the level of understanding in the main watch communities of these pieces was remarkably low.

I have to confess to playing down my level of Breitling passion when I first got here but it soon became clear that this was a very different place to TZ or WUS (nothing against them, not suggesting that BreitlingSource is better, just different and more for me).

As the community grew it was obvious that this was a place where I could be comfortable and share whatever knowledge I have without there being any attitude. Although the community has grown considerably since those days when there were only a few active members the sense of a relaxed atmosphere has remained and it's a nice place to come to escape the day to day grind.

While there have been some people here who don't fit the stereotype of a member the ones that stick around tend to have similar outlooks and I consider many to be friends now.

I still get some weird PMs, I still roll my eyes occasionally at some of the questions, but it's a fun place to be.

As one of the ones whom Roff rolls his eyes at most, I must echo most of what has been said. Originally I joined to find more info about the chronomat I was going to buy and had lusted after for years. Roff, D8 and Bnewbie were so patient with my questions that I stuck around (unlike WUS and TZ). Everyone tolerated my wise-assness and I developed a sense of belonging. Two lings later, I am still here. So in the end, blame the old guard for not being more exclusionary. Looks like I am here to stay! :P

It was a mistake and I have regretted it ever sinse.

The truth however is that I wanted information on a Navitimer and looked one up on youtube, I then watched one of admins videos and I then joined the site.

I must say I am happy they let you stay. I get a kick out of many of your postings.

I came across the site when I was in the processing of acquiring my 1st Breitling and wanted some information, hence why I lurked for so long before joining.

I didn't realise at the time how little I knew about watches but just that I was interested. The forum grew on me and I joined. I look back now and am amazed at how much I know now compared to then. It's just a great place to spend one's time as the members are, on the whole, fantastic, interesting and informative people who are happy to share the knowledge they have.

Kind of similar to Roff, which isn't all that surprising considering that we joined at a similar time.

When I joined, I'd be into Breitling watches for a good 10 years or so but I never did any more than lurk on a couple of the bigger forums (or joined and posted very sparsely) as I always found them to be a bit impersonal. Then I just happened to come across this place while looking for Breitling information and although there were about 100 members at the time there were only around 10 regular posters, so it was anything but impersonal! Reading a few posts it became clear it was the kind of place I wanted to be a part of - lots of banter, nice and relaxed, no massive egos, etc. Every new member was welcomed aboard (which I'm really pleased to see has continued even though our membership is now approaching 5000!) and people seemed genuinely interested in what people had to say. Additionally at the time I joined, my entire collection was made up Breitling watches, so this place seemed ideal..... and it was, and still is!

I joined in September 2007 when I first decided that I was going to buy a Breitling. I wanted to learn as much as I could before I made my decision on what model was best for me.

I joined this November while researching a starliner that I was wanting to get my wife for Christmas. I have stayed after that purchase and the purchase of my first Breitling, a steel fish not long after because I enjoy learning more about how the watches work and listening to other peoples opinions, questions and answers.

I have to admit that I never really thought of my self as a "watch forum" kind of guy, but with a 2 year old, 6 month old and another on the way it's a bit tough to get out these days and I find I really enjoy the time I am able to spend here every day.

I accidently came across this site when I was looking for my first Breitling. Loads of information and images to look at and read about. That was two years ago nearly and I'm still here today and enjoying spending time posting stupid questions without fear :D !

Thanks to everyone for making it so enjoyable.

Cheers

What brought me here?

The number 9 bus!

No it was pure watch porn, when searching for a Breitling, I had the money, and a rough idea of what I was after and stumbled across a link to the site, initially just on the main site drooling over pictures and sussing out the various models and variations.

Then one day I found the forum side of the site, hooked ever since, initially just as a watcher, using the search function and following up old posts, checking what had been sold, getting to "know" the regulars, and understanding the friendly atmosphere the banter and depth of knowledge.

Then finally fixing on the Navi World as my target watch, chatting with a few members about the Navi, and after finding one on Ebay, I was fairly confident it was correct, from my newly found site knowledge, but a final check on the site from the experts, and that was it.

Not stopped smiling since.

Always been a watch nut and recently have joined the Breitling club with a Cockpit that should be arriving in the next week or so. I came here looking for information and boy did I get my wish!

Years ago, I regularly contributed to a consumer electronics forum with some really great members. When I saw this board I had a flashback to those days. Didn't lurk here but more than 3 days before I signed up just because I couldn't keep quiet any more (much to the chagrin of the more senior members I bet!). I give credit to the admin, D8, Roff, et al for being the backbone of this place.

Also, as evidenced by the above quote, some of you crack me up!

I think I just had got my first Breitling and was cruising the internet to find information on what to buy next. I stumbled over this place and got stuck - too relaxed, friendly and fun to leave. At that time it was much smaller than today and the atmosphere was really great. Somewhere in between there was a dip/change in the atmosphere, coinciding with my work requiring more time and I went off for a while. For the last couple of months I've been back and luckily now find much of the old spirit again.

I found this place after some googling when the crown of my Herc came off in my hand and I wasn't terribly amused by it. I could tell after I joined up that this was the right place for me to ask stupid questions :)

I have been a member of other forums (none related to watches) and could see that there was a good sense of community here and a good community spirit. I 'get' the forum thing yet have been made to feel distinctly unwelcome and not 'part of the gang' at other forums. None of that here.

I do read and lurk more than post, and I like to read about the intricacies of watches, even though none of it makes sense to me at all :)
