Any UK members have any advice for the best spots to sightsee and great places to eat while staying in London??....it is going to be a short trip only a few days and i want to make the best of it.( any good watch spots as well?? =))

you got loads of places to see in London..... a few days is not gonna cut it. You gotta see the London Bridge, London Tower, British Museum, China Town, take a walk through Soho, Covent garden market, Marble Arch, Natural History Museum, Go shopping on Regent street, take pictures of the second most famous place on earth Picadilly Circus..... Edgeware road if youre into "arabic" food and fashion the list goes on all night. Check out some websites about london, there are heaps....

Just take a stroll down New Bond St if you want watches. "Marcus" is an absolute must.

As for sightseeing - well there's a heck of a lot to choose from, so just grab a touristy book, and a zone 1-6 Travelcard (just £4.50) and you can go pretty much anywhere in London on the tube. Have fun!

D8 New Bond Street is a small side street across the road from Bond Street station, am I right? Ive never seen a watchery there, is it new? I think there was a Body Shop there last time I was there, unless im mistaken

New Bond Street is a pretty long street actually. Old Bond Street is a small part of the whole ; the rest being official New Bond Street - but these days the whole lot is known as New Bond Street. It's a couple of mins walk from Bond Street Station.

Covent Garden, good for eating at night and atmosphere in the day time, avoid early evening as the restaurants get busy with the Theatre crowds (unless you are going to the Theatre of course) then go in the daytime and book a table for the night.

Don't eat and drink in the real touristy hot spots you will get ripped off.

Take a walk in Hyde Park, cafe at the end of the Serpentine lake near Mayfair, sit and watch the world go by, go on the London eye (its a good view) A day out? Hampton Court.

Where are you staying?

And what do you like? Cause after you have visited all Drivers shops you are going to have to target what you want to do!

A Travelcard works on the Buses as well.

Are you on your own or with a shopping machine?

Not enough time to visit all the sights? Take a London Bus sightseeing tour and sit on the open top. (wrap up well if you are going soon)

thank you everyone for the good advice, i am sure this is going to turn into a shopping expedition once we see some sights. I'm not a crazy museum kind of person, i like to explore more, i am really looking forward to my trip, i just hope it isn't as frigid as i hear.

Has anyone mentioned Soho?

If you're interested in anthropology, be sure to go to a football match at Millwall, preferably against West Ham or Leeds. No doubt you'll be able to get some jellied eels at half time as well!

Here's something I did long ago on a visit to London. We got on a bus at Euston going towards the east end and asked the driver to take us to a good pub on his route. He dropped us off at a genuine "knees up Mother Brown" pub where we had a great night. No way we could have found a place like that without local knowledge. Done the same with buses and taxis all over the world. Get away from the tourist traps and join the locals.
