I know I am the Forum Missery Guts but is it just me who finds it bloody annoying when someone joins the forum and their very first post is a sales one? Not only that but they don't even bother following the sales rules, they then use the excuse that they DID NOT READ THEM  Then usualy once the watch sells you never hear of them again and 9/10 they don't even say Thanks after the watch sells

On most forums you have to have a minimum post count to even view the sales section...

Rant over

agree.....on another forum i am on you cannot even view signatures, and links until your post count is established.

At least then you find out the ones who are on because of WIS and the ones who really don't care about community. If you add to a forum then you will get back tenfold 8)

Having either a 1st post in a forum as a watch for sale, or a new account whose only activity has been several "nice watch" comments before posting a watch for sale, always makes me suspect that a scam may be in play.

I was a moderator on another forum for a while and we had a minimum post before you could sell. I think it's a good idea.

Dumb question....what is a WIS? I keep seeing it everywhere but can not figure it out.

no it annoys me as well when they dont post pics prices or anything its just lazy.I dont think I would buy from a Brand new poster anyway its just too risky.

On this point do you think its good to at least post one pic with the date and your sig name in at least one of the sales pics that way at least you know that you have the watch that your selling

BreitlingSource is a little different to other places - that's what makes it BreitlingSource.

I've only been here a few months but have seen a couple guys post pics of their new watch they just bought with 1 post count and they never respond to anyone's opinions. Why bother...we are here to discuss watches not just look at them. I like seeing their choices but I can look at them all day long online.

It's the nature of the internet forum, my friend. For every 1 member that is a contributor, there are probably 100 that never post but just lurk. Just part of the game.

Once thing I don't understand, is how most watch forums don't require a tagged and dated picture of the watch in the listing. I won't even buy a watch from someone until they send me a picture of the watch, with the date and time set to a requested number and a tagged picture.

Very true....., but one thing I've always found very odd is when people go to the effort of joining up as a member and then post nothing at all. :huh I mean, I can understanding lurking as you can pick up plenty of information just by reading, but to go through the sign-up process and then not post a thing seems like a total waste of time to me. It's no skin off my nose, but personally I only sign up for something if I plan to use it.

Anyway, as of this moment, out of our 4769 members, 1471 have joined up and never posted a single thing. That's 31% of the membership, stat fans.....

Just a thought here - if someone signs up, posts a few threads about selling sunflower oil or anything similar, how's that accounted for?

My guess would be that the deleted posts end up with a blank post count... And I'm not sure how bans work - do that erase the profile or just make it impossible to post again?

I think that bans remove people from the member list, although I am not sure.

Also bear in mind that you have to sign up to PM and a number of people who haven't posted would have used the PM function - although not 31%!!

The sign up process was easier with the previous version of PHP which likely also resulted in more people signing up and not posting.

And to view attachments. I hate to admit it in light of the general sentiment of this thread but I'm a member of several forums in which I have never posted. I ended up there, looking for information on a topic and inevitably could not view an attachment in a post that I was interested in so I signed up. I'm a regular "lurker' there but I don't feel I have a lot to contribute and the overall general demeanor of the members on a lot of the forums is one where I really wouldn't want to associate myself with them to start with.

I guess that explains a few of them then!

Personally I have no criticism of people doing it; I just don't understand it myself (except for the reasons noted above of course!)
