I've had an "interesting" day today. First thing this morning, I decided to take back a couple Xmas presents that I'd bought people after changing my mind about them. (The presents that is, not the people! ) Anyway, in the typical way of the UK, a shopping centre near me obviously decided against salting/gritting the car park last night. So there I am driving out of the car park in the rain, oblivious to the fact that while the ground just looks wet (and the temp is +2.5 degrees C), the ground is actually just ice and slush. Turned the steering wheel, car goes straight on, no grip front or rear at all. Car turns sideways and with me shouting out loud, "sh*t, sh*t, sh*t, sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!", the car smacks into the curb front wheel first followed by the rear. Buckled front wheel, knackered front tyre, tracking is shot, AND as I just found out at the garage, my rears are also shot in terms of tread anyway, so I'm now staring down the barrel of a £600 GBP bill days before Xmas.

I guess the rear tyres needed doing anyway, but the front wheel is entirely due to taking back to presents that amounted to just £40 anyway!!!! Typical isn't it.

I feel for you Driver8!

No good deed goes unpunished and all that. I guess the UK still isn't used to dealing with bad weather when it happens. I guess if there's a bright side it could have been worse - hitting a kerb at relatively slow speed in a parking lot is infinitely better than might have happened. Cold comfort I know.

I've been driving around for a year with a hole in my rear bumper cover because somebody decided to drive into me in the parking lot of a pizza joint and I didn't want to pay $800 for a new one. The person forgot to leave their name and address too

Hope tomorrow's a better day!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Yes, apart from it not happening at all, I think I probably got away lightly. If I hadn't managed to turn it at all I'd be looking at a new front bumper as my car is pretty low to the ground. If there'd been a car in the way, then the damage would've been bodywork related.... to both cars. And obviously the worst case scenario (which just doesn't bear thinking about) is if a person was in the way.

All things considered, a bit of financial pain is a small price to pay.

BUT, if the damn shopping centre had just gritted their car park properly, nothing would've happened at all!

My commiserations Driver, that's just highly annoying, even though it really was the best outcome to a bad incident.

I've been out at it again today and you certainly need patience, there are people everywhere.

Hope the worst is behind you and you can get on an enjoy Christmas from now :D

That is a pain D8, but you're right, it's better than stuffing the whole front bumper (or worse). Hope it gets better from here!

I'm so glad I live somewhere that 'gritting' isn't an issue.

My condolences.
