I'm a big Phillies fan. I was saddened that Cliff Lee was traded away. Roy Halladay is a great player, but Cliff Lee won me over last year both personally and professionally. But my Phillies traded him and got Roy Halladay.

And then I saw this picture in the newspaper this morning. In the big picture in the paper, the first thing I noticed was not the Phillies logos all over the place or the big news headlines. No, what I immediately saw is that Roy Halladay appears to be wearing a beautiful Breitling Navitimer World for his big press conference! Nice! I think Roy Halladay has won me over already!

Going OT here, but if they were going to trade for Halladay and give up Drabek, they should have picked him up at the trade deadline and had both Lee and Halladay for the playoffs.

When I saw Milton Bradley wearing a two-tone Chronomat at his Cubs press conference last year, I thought it was cool but us baseball fans know how that turned out. I'm sure Halladay will turn out a lot better than that psycho.

Staying OT......

Pat Gillick (ex Jays) said on Toronto radio yesterday that he felt that the deal could have been done at the deadline - reading between the lines it sounds as though Toronto lowered their price in the off season.

this is a joke right? toronto. wont up his contract and they get kyle drabek, dumbest trade in baseball. they head a bad front office when jp was running the show now it has to be even worse. at least go heads up lee for roy with cash. now you have given away a guy who has been the best in baseball for the last 4 years and got 3 guys who have no experiance. make my boss look like a genius.

They'd be no better off with Lee than Halladay though since Lee is a free agent after next year as well. They'll have more use and will now have these prospects under control for a number of years while they rebuild, or at least attempt to rebuild. To me, it's pointless given 2 other teams in their divison will spend the money and bring in whatever talent is needed to win the division.

From what I recall at the trade deadline, Philly wouldn't give up Drabek and that was the hold up. I think they were willing up to give up their best outfield prospect but not Drabek. I think at the deadline the Jays also wanted Happ but I'm not 100% certain. If the Cole Hamels from 2008 showed up for the playoffs this year and they had Halladay, they could have taken down the evil empire known as the Yankees.

The claim is that they wanted prospects because they want to build for the future (how many times has that been siad in Toronto).

The argument being that their is no sense in building an 88 - 92 game winner in Toronto because of the division - not just the fact that you are competing with Boston / Yankees / Rays, but you have 54 games against those three. Sorry to Baltimore fans, but I guess you know why I left them out

The Mets are a mess but Minaya is a joke as a GM in my opinion. Your Red Sox though have been busy spending money. Lackey is a great pick up, Cameron is so-so. If anyone should be frustrated, its me. Jim Hendry handcuffed the Cubs by signing a complete wacko to a 3 year, $30 million deal. If they can't move him, our pick free agent pickup will be Marlon Byrd.

marlon is a great guy, we need to get rid of some people. a guy with the sox just told me clay or jacoby aor both for adrian gonzalaz, now if that happens i might have to rethink some things. theo would be nuts if he pulls that off.

Marlon had good numbers but you never know how much those were helped by the ballpark in Arlington. I thought going into this offseason the Red Sox would have traded away some of ther picthing prospects to the Brewers for Prince Fielder.

i know that was rumor near the deadline but nothing ever came up. he would be a great addition but just not the right mix i dont think. the first thing they need to do is resign josh then they can play alittle with the free agents.
