Post subject:  New car...?
I was thinking of purchasing a new car in the sometime near future and was looking for some input. I am currently considering the 2008 Infiniti G37 or the 2008 Lexus IS350. Anyone of you currently own these cars or have a first hand experience with them?

I drove both the IS250 and the G35 Coupe, and both cars were nice, but neither are exactly the car you are talking about. Comparing those two, I much prefered the G35 for handling and driving, but felt that the interior of the IS250 was substantially nicer. Otherwise I liked both cars.. neither had any glaring faults that would prevent me from buying it...

I ended up with a Cadillac CTS because the IS250 wasn't out at the time I bought it, and the G35 Coupe is 2 door, and the 4 door version is ugly. I wanted 4 door for practicality. Personally I think the G35 looks better than the G37, though.

How has the Cadillac been for you? I have heard that they have had some reliability problems over the past few years.

I love the look of the CTS, and it drives nice, however I have had 2 problems with it.. all under warranty.. There was a computer failure that made the car unstartable.. and i had to wait sometimes 15 minutes to start it. Then there was a rattle in the front suspensiont that was a control arm bolt that was rattling off.. Good thing i caught it before it was too late. At first I could only hear the rattle on speed bumps, but then it got snowy and driving on the ice i heard it all the time. Its a 2005 model and i've had it since new.

Even then, it is still more reliable than the Porsche Cayenne.

Ive had my 05 CTS from new and I have had so many problems with it. The front control arm problem you had admin. The Motor threw a rod through the block, the tranny went, rear diff grenadedalmost killing me and 2 other passengers. CD Player works 70% of the time, the lights on the dash flicker all the time and now 2 days ago the passenger mirror has a mind of its own and will sometimes angle all the way up so all i see is the sky!! The last thing is in 05 my model was fully loaded at 53,000 it is now worth $17,000. I WILL NEVER OWN/LEASE GM AGAIN

Man I would be raising some shit at the dealership.. and then threatening to create a website along with all the other problem CTS owners. Apparently GM doesn't take that kind of thing lightly and may even compensate you for it.

I have a g35 coupe and was on the list for a fully loaded g37 sport, after it arrived at the dealership i cancelled my order because well i think the exterior is much nicer on the g35. The back looks way to much like a 2-3 old toyota solara. I then moved onto a lexus but was upset to see there wasnt an awd version of the 350 so i just decided to get a 2008 highlander and keep my coupe. I would look into a m35 or even a bmw 335

I was thinking about the 335 as well....it's just that the Lexus and the Infiniti offer a lot more technology wise for about $10k less. Of course nothing can beat the ride of a bmw and the pleasure one gets from driving one.

Well said, Chicagofan00. I'm a big BMW fan, and I really fancy the 335 Sport Convertible for my next car, as I do like a bit of open-top motoring here in the "sunny" climes of England! I love the folding hardtop they have now. I never buy brand new cars as the depreciation on all new cars is pretty dire, so I reckon I may hold fire for a year or so until the prices come down a bit. :cry:

I thought about it alot but i never get the time to do anything non-work related. Visiting Breitling Source is the only thing i get to do online that i enjoy

So I got the chance to sit in a 2008 335i Convertible Coupe.....and that sealed the deal. This will more than likely be the car that I purchase. However, it looks like I will be pushing the purchase off til at least the middle if not later part of this year....The car was just a thing of beauty though!!

The 335 (especially the convertible) are very much over priced but then again its a nice car, fast car, very well made car so they can pull it off. It's one of those cars you look at it, look at the cars in it's class and see the price tag and think "man thats way to much for this car" then you drive it and forget all about the price tag. I would go with a g37 for 10k less but there is no wrong choice, if you can afford it the 335 is a great choice. Another cheaper option is the new 135 coming out, same engine, twin turbo 300hp, 600lbs lighter and smaller. It's actually faster then the 335 but doesnt have all the same bells and whistles.

The new 1 series are very intriguing as well...I'm just waiting to see one in person. I haven't been to the dealership lately so I don't know if they have any in the showroom yet. I'm curious to see just how much smaller they are when actually sitting in one. Not only that, but I'm always a little leary of getting the first model year of a new car...

The new 1 Series motors (i.e. the coupes and convertibles) are good cars. I was never that much of a fan of the original hatchback version. I'm pretty tall and fairly broad shouldered and I was expecting them to be quite cramped inside, but they are OK. Sure they aren't as wide as a 3 Series, but by no means uncomfortable. I could get away with one far more than I could a Z4. I'd look like an ogre squeezed into a Z4! :)

With respect to those who own Cadillacs, they do take a beating on depreciation. They aren't the only brand that does. Many imports do too. I've worked for an auto dealer for 15 years and have been involved with selling and financing just about every car (even exotics!) on the road. Cadillac has came a long way from being your grandma and grandpa's car. Their marketing department has done a great job making the brand appealing to the younger generation, and they've done a good job transforming the company by producing models like the CTS, XLR, and Escalade. They are known to have some minor problems with quality control, and that's where the 4yr/50,000 mile warranty comes in. Now they carry a 5yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. It sounds like a freak accident with the problem you've had. That's a very rare catastrophic failure. I hope no one was seriously hurt. Did you ever research your rights on lemon law?
