Any Englishmen coming out here to watch some good cricket, drink cheap beer & enjoy some African style hospitality?

I wish I was as SA is somewhere I'd love to visit, but I think it'll be unlikely. The nearest I'll get to SA for the foreseeable is drinking a bottle of Castle Lager!

I hope one day to take you up on that generous offer Peter! (Although I'll probably NEED free beer after England inevitably start brightly, then collapse and get spanked! )

You're too hard on your team Mr 8. I seem to remember your team winning back the Ashes a few months ago - not to mention your series win the last time England came to our shores.

Probably the best knock I've ever seen (live, at the ground) was Mike Atherton's 185* a good few years ago to save the Wanderers Test. I was at the same ground where Steve Waugh and Greg Blewitt batted all day without a wicket falling. Waugh eventually got 160 odd and Blewitt something like 214.

Atherton's innings was better than those two Aussie innings combined.

Wish I was able to catch some games in SA. The trouble and strife probably wouldn't have any of it unfortunately!

I was lucky enough to catch two days play at the Oval when the Ashes were won though.

Hopefully our favourite "son" KP will be fighting fit and up for it on the tour!!!

The family & I spent yesterday at the SA vs Zimbabwe 50 overs per side game. Our batsmen look in pretty good nick - Hashim Amla & AB De Villiers is particular. The bowling department however still look very rusty. Dale Steyn looked so tame my son asked me if I'd be able to face him. :)

England are looking good in their warm-up matches, especially the opening batsmen.

First game is a T20, Friday 13th Nov

I'm glad I didn't mention anything about sunny skies in my opening post because we are having the most unsummer like weather I've ever seen. We are 4 weeks away from mid summer & all the winter woollies are out. Last night and again this morning the Real Feel temperature was zero Celsius. Soaking rain has been falling almost all week.

Today is the start of the ODI's just up the road at the Wanderers. We'll need a miracle for play to get underway. Sunday's game at Centurion may also be in doubt.

I'm keeping the Castle Lager in the fridge for now – If I look outside, a pint of warm English beer would be much more appropriate!

Apeaking as an old fogey British ex pat...........

A pint of warm English beer is always more appropriate

I didn't realise that it would be that cold down there this late in the year Peter.

Hope things improve soon - and not just for the cricket.

I agree Roff! A nice pint of Fullers London Pride/Golden Pride/ESB/Vintage Ale, etc, etc is just what's required! :D

What a game! Probably one of the better drawn matches I’ve seen. The way the 1st Test ebbed and flowed was something special to watch and experience. We were at the ground for the first day (I haven’t missed going to the first day’s play of the first Test against any English team) and watched patiently as we dug ourselves out of a big hole.

At tea on the final day it looked like a tame draw was inevitable but that final session surely had everyone sitting on the edge of their seats.

So off to Durban for the Boxing Day Test.

I didn't watch much of the 1st test but was hooked for the last 2 hours.

Prior to Pieterson's suicidal run out, I thought England had a real chance of victory yet within the hour, it was looking like certain defeat.

When the result is in doubt down to the last ball, it's a been a great match.

Strange pitch when the spinners get 5fors in the first innings yet next to nothing in the second.

Looked like a very interesting game, from the bits I saw of it.

Nice beer snake by the way! Those have been banned here now, along with proper beer and everything else.

Strange indeed. The pitch seemed to go through stages when it looked really easy to bat (like when Swann & Anderson were batting :D ) and then there were stages when it was really up and down.

That's terrible Otto.

I'm sure beer snakes & proper beer will be around as long as SABMiller are sponsoring Test cricket here. The sponsors even bought everyone in the ground (18 years or older) a beer when Ntini took his 1st wicket. This was Ntini's 100th Test.
