Ok so im a bit sick, but there is just some thing about a well made knife that has all the trimmings that gets my insides going! Lately I have even been taking some of my more expensive limited editions out for strolls :lol:

I can't see leaving them in the safe all the time.
What is your favorite brand or knife as if there could only be one?

I think Spyderco makes excellent knives. SOG too. There's a small Idaho-based company called Piranha that produce really good auto knives (It's legal to own them where I live). I just like them all. :oops:

I've collected knives since my teens. But the one thing that irks me about collecting knives is that I can't use them for their intended purpose. Well, yes I can, and I do have some that get used hard, but for the nicer pieces, I would never use or sharpen them. And to me thats almost an insult to the knife, as it will never get to carve a stick, cut a rope, skin an animal. It seems odd to me now to covet a tool that never does the job it was intended to do. I had the same realization with fly reels. A reel isn't a reel until it has caught a fish. Otherwise it is just a gorgeous paperweight LOL. I'm just weird this way. And it is an attitude that has saved me alot of money

Thats one of the reasons I've transitioned to watches, as I can wear and enjoy them, regardless of value.

Take a look at kershaw if you like auto. They use a system called assisted opening. Awesome quality a little better build quality an sog. One of my favorites is the baby boa.

Cool. My brother in law designs knives and other things for Gerber. I've gotten a few multi-tools from him and I can't say I'm impressed. I like leathermans better.

If your interested in a top notch sharpener spyderco makes a system that is so easy to use you won't believe it. I swear you can shave with the blade when your done! It can even repair damaged blades with ease and sharpen serrated blades. I have been using it for a long time and love it! Sorry for the long post but I love my knives!

They use a system called assisted opening. Awesome quality a little better build quality an sog. One of my favorites is the baby boa.

That's a valid point, I actually carry (not at the same time, but on a rotation ) & use most of my knives. I don't own "collector's pieces" (yet ), which would be almost too nice to carry, I usually look for practical, good quality EDC knives. On the other hand, some discontinued knifes actually have quite high prices, at least compared to what they'd cost when new.

I seem to lean towards autos for daily cary, but I love fantasy abd hand crafted knives the most. If you guys are interested check out gill hiben and kit rae. They are fantastic designers. I am on mobile so I can't post any of my pictures.

As has been noted, Admin is into knives so may be connected. For me, I have a few knives, but as practical tools for living in open country in (relatively) wild Ontario - don't consider myself a collector anymore than I collect chainsaws - they are just tools. To tie this back to watches, GoS watches are made by a knifemaker and you can get dials with Damascus steel patterns or similar. No link to hand (sorry), will try tomorrow when on a real computer.

I have many gerbers and while I love the designs of them I have to say their quality leaves a lot to be desired if you really work them. Sog, kershaw, and benchmade are tops in my book. There are the course ones that take away nicks and what not... Then there are 2 white stones that finish the job. just spectacular. I can't say enough about this set. It is worth every penny! And in case any one is wondering I don't have any stake in the company..
