It's times like this that I realise that the US and the UK are two countries separated by a common language. :lol:

I don't have a clue what this thread is about!

I would love to but I live in the UK, so there's no hope in hell. Carry as much as pepper spray or a telescopic baton in this nanny state and you'll soon find yourself banged up in the pokey.

The gummint suggest that if you're attacked, you should "call the police".

Quick summary for you D:

CCW = Concealed Carry Weapon
CWP = Concealed Weapon Permit

And to answer the OP nope, but I do enjoy the hobby of shooting.

Ah ha! It all becomes clear! Thanks for the education Rey! :thumbsup:

So what's the difference between a concealed carry weapon and having a concealed weapon permit? I mean, they're both to do with weapons that are concealed, right? :huh

I guess I understand what it's like for you guys when you read threads about cricket! :lol:

Really no difference. CCW I think is just a generic term that a lot of people use, because gun laws are by state, and the licenses to carry a handgun are called different things in different states - some call it a CWP, others CHL (concealed handgun license), others CHP (concealed handgun permit), HCP (handgun carry permit), PRL (pistol/revolver license), CPL (concealed pistol license), CWL (concealed weaponse license). You get the point. Basically any permit/license that allows you to carry a handgun.

I've also know someone that refers to it as his GGRTSMAP- God Given Right To Save My Ass Permit.

Thanks for the additional info, Kstone! :thumbsup: Every day's a school day!

It's not wholey surprising that I know very little about this considering I live in a country where I can imagine carrying a umbrella to be outlawed in a few years. In actual fact I personally I have absolutely no problem at all with such draconian measures on weapons in this country if it guaranteed our safety, but sadly both knife and gun crime have been steadily increasing in the UK for years. :roll:

But when offenders seem to get little more than a slap on the wrist (and not a very hard slap either or else someone's human rights might be violated) and just told not be be such a naughty individual in future (but not in a very strongly worded way unless the police get sued for mental cruelty), I guess that's not overly surprising either. :evil:

IMO the UK should just pass a law that says, "If you carry a knife or a gun you go to prison for 50 years with no parole". Problem solved - only the truly stupid would carry anything if they knew that kind of penalty awaited them, and if they did get stopped and searched they'd be banged up immediately and we'd have no repeat offenders on the streets for 50 years. Instead of that the idiots are let off with a caution, and are free to knife the next innocent person who "looks at them wrong". Great.

And they will only continue to increase.

I must say thank you to president Bush for passing the bill for Police Officers to be able to carry in all 50 states no matter which department you work for, and even when retired you still can carry. It makes the world a safer place. :D
