Post subject: | DSLR Cameras |
So as some may know I am going away to Europe for vacation in 6 months and before I go I want to invest in a DSLR camera. I know there are a few photographers in here so I figured best bet to find out some info here. I don't want to spend crazy cash but I want to be able to shot action pictures, portraits, and low-light shots. Macro would be cool too but I hear you need a fully dedicated lense to do anything half decent. My budget is $1000 - $1500 and have very little knowledge when it comes to this stuff. I did some research and tried to learn some of "jargon" but still left with an empty prospect. Would it be worth me getting the DSLR or would it be just better to stay with a typical digital camera? The only upside to the digitals is they aren't as bulky for travelling. |

I say get the Nikon D40, its in the 500 USD range packaged with a decent 18-55 MM Nikkor lens and takes great pics, it is bulky to travel and you will never forget its there. The smaller ones take decent enough pics and are forgetable but might not give you the results you want. |

If you haven't already got one....try and avoid a budget DSLR (eg Canon 400D) and try and get a semi-pro (eg Canon 30D or 40D) or Nikom equivalent. I do a lot of aviation photography, the difference is huge, far better built, and it will take a lt more frames per second, the semi-pros have more featues, if you use the camera properly, you won't be disappointed! |

I ended up getting the Canon Rebel xTi. I want to get a lens with the image stabilization system in it though. But my next major purchase is a macbook pro. Once I get my refund from the government I'm probably gonna buy that. Whats everyones take on that camera? |

Isn't the Canon Rebel XTI the same DSLR as Canon 400D? Just different name for different markets (US/Canada - Europe). |
