OK, so my tongue is slightly in cheek here after all of the discussions around bags, but I have commissioned a Scottish leather artist to produce me a custom laptop bag. It's going to have my company logo on it, as well as some of the things that are part of my life - there'll be some watch references. It's also going to have a removable portfolio that I can use for meetings.

Now I know that it's no LV, but it's also not costing me as much as an LV - in fact it's cheaper than a certain box of soap powder :lol:

SO at the risk of boring everyone, here's the first picture of it. This is all I have, the woman producing it is going to send me photos of the process (which is also pretty neat). So I proudly present, my laptop bag (as of late last week):

How much customization can/did you do? Do they start with certain templates? Fill me in, I may be interested also. I will, however, make sure the system is sound by waiting for you to beat yours up a bit before I commit, but the it looks like a quality operation! :D

100% customisable. No template, just told her the dimensions that I wanted, exchanged some ideas with her and we agreed on what it would look like. I literally chose everything from the colour to the type of buckle and stitching.

No in all seriousness, I bet it's going to be a superb piece of kit when it's finished. Quality handmade products are still very hard to beat.

I'll post some more pictures as she sends them to me, she has promised pictures of the carving in progress.

I guess ultimately I need to reserve judgment until I see the product, but I have to say it's been an extremely pleasurable experience so far - she quickly got the concept of what I was looking for without me having to spell out every last thing. That was important to me, because she's the expert and I wanted to provide some 'themes' and have her interpret it based on her understanding of the material, functionality etc.

Let me know if anyone is going to contact her and I'll give her a heads up that it's a recommendation from me. I've already agreed price and paid deposit so there's nothinjg in it for me (and I wouldn't want there to be).

Well....

I now have my bag.

I've attached a couple of bad photos - I haven't yet got the 'in progress' photos from the lady that produced it because she just moved and is having internet problems.

I have attached some very small photos to give you some idea, but I really don't know how to tell you how good this thing is! I wanted something that was custom to me and was still professional enough to represent my company. I provided her with some ideas of my interests and requirements and left it to her to come up with the final design.

The bag has my company logo on the front flap, with my initials in the bottom corner. Underneath the flap is a carved pocket watch with the movement showing - including jewels. On the back I asked for a detachable portfolio that I could take to a meeting without having to take the whole laptop bag. At the same time I wanted to have it be a useful part of the bag. The portfolio alos has my initials and a horse's head (I ride) as well as the horizon line for the view from our house (overlooking Georgian Bay). Underneath the portfolio is a profile of one of my Alaskan Malamutes.

This bag is amazing, and the woman is an unbelievable talent.

I'll post better pics when I can, but this thing is one of the best things that I have ever bought.

And it only cost GBP675 - shipped.

Great looking bag! I couldn't pull it off but it looks a work of art...and for less than that LV tat too! Seriously, why would someone buy that LV garbage when you could have a fine piece like that for less $$$?

Damn! Beat me to it!! I was going to ask where the tell-tale "LV" monogram was placed. Too slow!! :lol:
