I'm tempted to say a watch, though I didn't realise it at the time - my parents bought be a 'good' watch for one of my teenage birthdays in the mid 80s - a manual wind Sekonda - the UK label for a Russian watch, and bear in mind this was before the fall of communism.

It lasted about a week.

Other than that (another from my parents) a brown nylon tie with an Airbus A300 on it - my father was in the aeronautics parts industry and got it as a freebie.

A few years back I got my mother-in-law an expensive and very high quality cast iron pot for cooking, after she had been complaining for a year that she didn't had any good kitchenware.

At Christmas the year after, I received... the very same cast iron pot, unopened. I know for sure that it was the same pot since the box was labelled from a store in a different city where she never goes. It felt extremely weird and awkward. Well, I use it with joy every now and then. A very good present, but a crappy hand-over. Her loss.

LOL That's a funny story.

My worst present (I've received tons i can barely remember, but this one sticks out a bit) was a Sweater my Godmother gave me many years ago.. I thought it was a bit odd when I opened it.. I heard of the brand before, but was unfamiliar with it. When I went to the store and looked, it turns out they only sold women's clothing.. it was a woman's sweater!!

Lets just say my expression was , swiftly followed by  !! Especially as I was opening presents around my parents house at the time! And fortunately my aunt WASN'T there! (It was many, many years ago when I'd just turned 16, so I think it was more of a "coming of age" joke on her part. Still a little odd though!)

That would have been a bit uncomfortable. Safe to assume no one said "Go try 'em on to see if they fit." hahahaha. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Just curious, what part of the South Coast are you from? I'm from the Brighton, Hove area. Actually, Upper Beeding/ Steyning to be exact.

I'm from the New Forest area. I don't know the Brighton area too well as I more often tend to head west towards Bournemouth rather than east, but Brighton is a pretty cool place. How long since you left the UK?
