Confusing title, I know

Summer is the worst time to take pics of birds, for one thing they are so energetic and keep jumping around and flying away, for another it is so hot around here you cant stand in the sun for more than 20 minutes without hallucinating! Plus the vegetation is at its peak so you can hardly see the damn things even if they did stand still.

Anyhoo, tried to take a couple of pics yesterday and here are the results,

Picked this branch and pointed my 70-200MM 2.8 Nikkor and 1.7X TC (d300) at it for about ten minutes hoping a bird would grace me with his or her kind presense. Just as I was about to give up this hot mama decided to pose for me.

Couple of seconds later her man shows up and he doesnt seem too happy

Thats the only two good shots I got from the 20 minutes I spent, also quite pissed I didnt get a sharper result of the next shot

This retarded fellow was trying to land on the bricks but cut it a bit too close as you can see here

Anyway here he is a few seconds later, still pissed

Awesome photos - especially with a teleconverter a well as a big lens.

Thank Roff, I am finding photography to be quite more dificult than I initially expected, but I am enjoying it. These are my first attempts at wild life photography, and I hope I progress as well as my watch photos have. still a long way to go, makes me really apreciate those amazing photos in national geographic!

Great clear shots Altair. Makes me want to get out there and try to better them with my trusty mobile phone camera! (Or then again, maybe not. )

And no, I still haven't bought a decent camera yet!

Thanks all.

BoneDoc, nope no after work whatsoever (just a slight crop) I just pumped up the saturation in my cameras picture settings and played around with my white balance till it gave me a bit more amber than blue.

Driver, if your not into photography for the same of photography and just want to take pics of what really matters (family, trips, watches  ) there are some great deals out there.

The Canon Sd880IS is around 300 USD and fits in yoru pocket, great quality:

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Powershot-S ... 149&sr=8-7

The Canon A590 is also very good, though a bit pudgy. But at around 180 who can complain?
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-D ... 285&sr=8-1

Now if you want some truely amazing picture, step up to the the amazing Nikon D40, at only 420USD it will give you more options and posiibilities than you ever dreamed of in this price bracket.
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-18- ... 304&sr=1-1

I would not spend any more than that, unless its on a lens for a very specific need you have. Other wise you should be very happy with any of those.

Stunning photos Altair

I'm looking to get my 1st DSLR camera at the end of the year. I currently have an entry level Nikon SLR and definitely keen to upgrade! Did you take any photography courses? I would describe myself as a keen amateur but need some work to progress.

Nope, no courses. Just read a great book titled Exposure, and the rest of what I need I google.

If you are looking to upgrade to a more serious SLR (from a D40 I assume?), get a D90 or a d700, nothing else is worth the money.
