What a beautiful vehicle.

I'm referring to the '02 F-250 (tow vehicle), of course!

I love the smell of diesel in the morning.

It's a pretty good truck, my third F series. It has been pretty reliable and has 60K miles of hard towing duty under its belt. My wife tows a 3 horse trailer and I tow the racecar and it has never let us down. It needs new shock absorbers and the tranny has started to drip a little and I replaced the brakes and starter last winter but all in all it's been OK. I wouldn't exactly describe it as beautiful though.

I think you guys are joking around, so I'll jump in here. I love the car, it is my 23rd car, my fifth BMW (3 M cars, 2 non M). Additionally I have owned an Audi, many Fords, an Oldsmobile, a Mitsubishi, 3 Porsches, an Infiniti, and a Honda. I instruct people on how to drive their cars on racetracks here in the Midwest US and do 30-40 track days per year, I have driven and ridden in literally hundreds of different sports cars on the racetrack. That being said, I don't know of a vehicle I can afford that I would rather have as a daily driver. It clearly isn't the "best" car manufactured, I don't even know if it's "The ultimate driving machine", but it's pretty damn good at everything I use it for.

Just my $.02.

:)

jhowton, I am curious to know which Porsche's you owned? I had an '86 944 factory turbo and I loved it! Always wanted a 911 but never got one. BTW Ever drive at Mid America Motorplex, or Heartland Park?

Hi Chance,

My Porsches were all 928s, I had a 79 5 Speed, an 87 S4 A/T and and 87 S4 5 Spd. I have never been to MAM or Heartland Park, although the schedule for 08 has MAM at the end of June. I have driven Road America, Putnam Park, Mid Ohio, Gingerman, Blackhawk Farms and Autobahn Country Club.

Regards

Jamie

When I was in my late teens, my dad owned two Porsches. A '90 928 w/ 5.0L V8. He started to have issues with it and traded it for a '92 911 3.6L Turbo.

I did get to drive them every great once in a while, but not near enough.

Lots of fun, and very powerful!

That's really cool to hear. I have always loved the look of the 928. I was even a fan of the 968 when they combined the 944 and the 928. I bet that 8 cylinder was bad ass!

It was. The car was plagued with electrical trouble though. The sunroof got stuck once and it started raining. We drove home as fast as we could to get it in the garage. The water pump (impeller) went out twice ($800 fixxer), and the leather on the dash started to seperate at the stiching. After too many frustrating fixes, the car was traded.

It was, 316HP, 320ftlbs of torque, it was pretty decent. The car handled well, had a semi active rear axle and awesome brakes. The achilles heal of the engine was that it was a quad overhead cam engine that used a timing belt rather than a chain. Porsche also drove the coolant pump with the same belt and as a result the belt is 78 inches long, in fact the longest timing belt ever used on a car. The problem is that the tension on the belt was set manually and it required re-tensioning every 15,000 miles and completely replacing every 40,000 miles. If you skipped either of those you are driving a time bomb since if any of the camshafts skipped a tooth, all of the valves driven by that cam would contact the top of the pistons the next time they reached the top of the stroke, which usually cost about $7,000 per slipped cam (and there are four that can slip). Having three of those engines, I got pretty good at re-tensioning and replacing timing belts and have done the job on friend's cars too but to be honest it got a bit old. The other problems with the cars are things like the door locks and heater controls being vacuum operated which is difficult to troubleshoot, they were hand built cars and none of the wiring was installed using standardized color coding, just whatever was on the shelf. Lots of little niggling issues that drove me crazy, however I am still tempted to buy another one from time to time before I snap back to reality.

My 645 actually reminds me of my 928s quite a bit FWIW, the comfort and performance are very similar, but it's a modern car with a reliable low maintenance engine.
