Well - what do you guys think of the first round of the season?

Great for Toro Rosso to get the last 2 point scoring places - shame one was on a technicality but that's how it goes.

Bonus for Lewis to get decent points as his car is not up to scratch yet.

Amazing finish for Brawn GP - really pleased for them - one of the guys I work with knows Ross Brawn through his parents and says he's a really nice guy. I'm pleased for Richard Branson too - I have a lot of time for that bloke so he deserves the reward of a good weekend.

Buemi gets a couple of points in his first ever GP - STR get 3 points and are 6th in the table. Red Bull (larger, sister team) and Ferrari (local rivals) get nil points and are being lead by one of the smallest teams on the circuit. No doubt this will change over the course of the season but for now there's quite a buzz at work. Can't quote my boss (in mixed company) but they don't care how they get their points!

So - countdown to next weekend - not much feedback from the race team but a pat on the back (from the big boss) to everyone who had a hand in the car this season - they both made full race distance and got points as a bonus.

I'm a huge F1 fan and I thought it was a brilliant start to the season! The cars look a little odd to me with the massive wide front wing and the narrow rear wing, but it appears to have made for some decent racing.

It's a truly amazing start for Ross Brawn! That guy really knows his stuff. Just hope they can keep it going and stay ahead of the curve.

I have to say this is going to be great season for me as I'm less bothered this year about who takes the championship. In years gone by I was a huge Michael Schumacher fan (sorry everyone! ), and when he quit I was just keen that Alonso DIDN'T win anything! In the last couple of years I was cheering on Hamilton as I really wanted him to get a World Championship under his belt, but now he as he's managed that I'm just going to chill out, sit back and enjoy what will hopefully be a great season's racing. (Oh and cheer on the Toro Rosso boys too of course! :D )

Well Driver8 that almost exactly mirrors my own views - the only difference me not being a fan of MS. That said, one of the guys here who has also worked at Ferrari (and Sauber) said that Michael was a real nice genuine bloke - it was simply that he had the will to win - the killer instinct I guess.

So yes, as long as the chubby cheeked hampster doesn't win much I will be happy for the Brawn brothers to continue their sucess and as you say STR to do well too - the staff get a bonus based on points (not me tho').

Roll on round 2.

Yeah old Mickey S did tend to polarise opinion a little! The thing is, for me he wasn't a world away from Senna in terms of his "win at all costs" attitude. The only difference was that Michael went abouit it in a very Germanic fashion while Senna was all Latin fire and passion.

I always remember Damon Hill's quote about Schumacher and for me, while being a great quote, I wouldn't have taken it as a put down and I'm pretty sure MS would've actually loved it! Hill's quote went, "What you've got to remember about Michael is that under that cold professional Germanic exterior, beats a heart of stone".

I just love the fact that the same old names aren't up there - brilliant first race, hoping for a great, competitive season, and wishing everyone would shut up about the stooopid diffuser and just accept that Ross Brawn kicked their backsides.

Thanks again - I've had loads of support from forum members and I'm really happy that this job has turned out so well. Only 3 weeks left for me now :( but hope to be asked back in October :D

I'll need to get my finger out and get some pics taken in the next couple of weeks.

Then my wife - Sylvia - is flying out and we will take a leisurely drive home - a long weekend in Munich - a couple of days in the Black Forest near Titisee - then Calais/Eurotunnel - a night in Wiltshire and home to Scotland. I've not seen my house since 5th Jan so quite happy to be getting back for a while.

Then it's back to the real world and another job - and back in the same boat as everyone else!

Well - less than a week left now and I am so looking forward to getting home and a full Scottish breakfast, Sunday roast, English speaking TV etc etc

I still have a few days to try to get hold of a steering wheel for photos so will post in the gallery when I get home if I get sorted. Failing that I hope to be back in November for the 2010 season car - fingers crossed.

We had our Leaving party last night, half a dozen of us spread over different departments - a little thank you to the team for a warm welcome, really nice people here although a few may be cursing us today

Went pretty well - many many bottles of Vino Rosso!!

I had a small mishap when I dropped my cigar, bent over to pick it up and ended up nutting the floor! The guys with me said they were waiting for me to put a hand out to stop myself and I just didn't - so a cut above my black eye is the result! Jacket will wash hopefully. Bloody funny really, good job I was pi55ed otherwise it would have hurt!

Just goes to show - smoking can be bad for you!!

Also - woke up at about 4 in the morning upside down in bed - feet on the pillow! Never done that one before.

So all in all a great night was had by all - had to confess to Mrs BB as she's arriving on Wednesday and the brusing will be a bit hard to hide.

Ah the evils of drink - what a night!

I'm not sure which is funnier - the fact that you did it, or the fact that you told us you did it!!

Glad that you're OK BB - sounds like you had a great time, both last night and over the last 4 months. Hope it works out for you to be able to back next season!

Thanks Roff - looking pretty positive for another run here from November to next March so am quite pleased that I've made a good enough impression. Now I just need a job to keep me in Glasgow for the next few months and all will be sorted.

It seems a bit daft, I guess, letting you lot know how stupid I am but if we can't laugh at ourselves it's a shame. I keep chuckling about the whole thing. If the weather is half decent, after the race, I'll wander down to the bar where we had the party and say thanks for the plaster and for a great night.

Shame that Bourdais is so far off the pace but it will be another interesting day with the 2 Toyotas on the front row. At least there's less chance of rain playing a part - only sandstorms to look out for!

Yeah, Bourdais looks like a different driver to the one who dominated CART a few years ago - not sure what's going on there. It's turning into a great season - much more competition than recently which has to be good. Bahrain's a nice track - not sure about the sand coloured astroturf though
