Not a bad choice. :D And second hand it's worth its money.

Do you have the M version in the States? Here it produces 555 HP

I got the update done on the injectors and high pressure pump, and I never chipped it so I expect at my usage level, a LONG time. I average about.... 4000 miles a year, maybe less.

Its almost like you are reading my mind. Although the S5 is also pretty pricey. I also think a V8 might be bit hard on the gas prices, so a beefed up 6 cylinder is optimal. The A5 is much more reasonable, but only includes an inline 4.

All in all I want the S5 stylings with the 335i engine and the CTS coupe price. is that too much to ask?

I beleive in the states you can also get the A5 with a 3.2L 6-cylinder

I believe in the states you can also get the A5 with a 3.2L 6-cylinder

To return on topic, it's nothing like a BMW in-line 6 though.

As for styling, IMO the A5 has a lot of resemblance with the 3 series coupe. And the 3 series was first out of the box.

See this interesting comparison: http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/02/21/audi- ... -rages-on/

After quite a bit of research I have fallen out of love with the CTS and S5, and gone head over heels for the new 335is. I have been hooked to the BMW forums learning about the model and I just couldn't have a more resounding winner.

Even better is the European Delivery Program where you can save substantial money and get to pick up your auto in germany and do some driving while there.

Anybody driven or riden in the 335is?

Yes. Absolutely awesome. Unfortunately (for me at least) you need to live somewhere where petrol is a heck of a lot cheaper than the UK to be able to afford to run one. Somewhere like Texas might be a good bet!

Great choice Thomas, I can assure you you won't be disappointed. I have a 135i, which has the same engine, it's a little bomb. Some Porsche drivers can tell you about it.

As for the European delivery, it's a really good idea. Not only you get it cheaper but you can pick it up at BMW Welt where you are treated as a VIP. You get to visit the BMW Museum and the adjacent BMW factory (a really interesting visit) where they mainly make the 3 series, among other things. You'll be amazed by how quick these robots work.

As for driving around, there are a lot of things to visit, the Bavarian castles being one good option. Switzerland is not far either (about 3-4 hour drive). After you're done with your visit, you can drop the car at designated areas and then it is shipped over and you pick it up at your local dealer.

Sweet! Congrats on your new direction thomasenlow1. I echo everyone's thoughts, you won't be disappointed with BMW, especially the 335is. Actually, you'll have a hard time going back to anything else, if you ever decide thats what you want to do. What kind of deal can you get though, in Canada this model retails for around $60k

Well if this is going to morph into a discussion of the 35s, here's my gripe.

I turn 40 this year and want a mid life crisis car. Obviously I want some performance, but given that this is a summer driving car I want a convertible with a stick shift. Z4 made the short list and is available in three different models here in Canada - 30i, 35i and 35is. Of course I look for the most power, which just so happens to be the only model in the range that you can't get with a stick shift

I get the fact that the double clutch automatic is technically quicker than a stick, but I want something I can drive and if you are going to make a stick shift available then at least use it - it's not like this is the luxury cruising variant. If the issue is that the manual trnasmission can't handle the 10% more power over the 35i then it brings into question whether I want that transmission at all - just a dumb decision in my opinion.

I guess at least it's progress over the Mercedes - no manual transmission option at all there!

Even if it's, technically, an automatic transmission, you can use it as a shift, if you want, by putting the gear on manual shift (by pulling the shift on the left). I know, it's not exactly the same as pure shift, but at least you'll have two transmissions in one. Something that might turn up useful if you're stuck in traffic, for example.

I've been hearing this argument for years from people trying to sell me 'manumatics' - whether it's sequential shifter or flappy paddle it's just an automatic with options - it's not even close to a manual.
