When I was in high school and younger I was very into Ska/Punk. I was a regular rude boy - I went to concerts in Philadelphia almost every weekend and was very heavy into that scene. Mustard Plug, Less Than Jake, Catch 22, Mighty Mighty Bostones, Reel Big Fish etc... I still have all these albums and they bring back lots of memories of live shows and dancing my ass off.

These days my tastes have bifurcated. I am in love with The Beatles ; they are by far my most favorite rock band. They make up the majority of my listening experience on a given day. Many people have said more eloquent things about this band but they are modern-day Mozarts.

The other side is rap and hip hop. Mostly Drake, Jay-Z, Immortal Technique, Mos Def, Talib Kweli. Some Kanye West. I like to hear a good story and most of these guys, IMO, can paint a story well with words.

Like D8, I'm surprised there are so many metal-heads here!

100% agreed. I never get tired of watching that performance.

Tough to name a favourite, or even to single out a few, so I'll just go with what's on heavy rotation on the ipod at the moment: TI, the Stones, La Roux, Hunters & Collectors, Green Day, Curtis Mayfield, Faith No More, Lou Reed, Wu-Tang. Not much of a pattern there, really.

It might have had something to do with the mescaline they took. Santana wasn't suspposed to play for about 2 hours but some other band was MIA. The band had "scheduled" their trip to coincide with their original start time. As it was ,they were "peaking" when they took the stage. If you see clips of that performance, take a look at Carlos' intense countenance which is nothing more than him trying to control the neck of his guitar which had turned into a snake! The entire performance he muttered to himself - "Hold on. Stay in tune. Hold on. Stay in tune." And he did - both.

A different time. Fortunately.

 I'd heard something like that before. Quite a look on the drummer's face too!

Edit - just imagine the state the band which was MIA must have been in!

To be honest I can't even limit this to a single genre of music, let alone a single band, as I have a seriously wide taste in music. I have around 11,000 songs on my iPod, and you wouldn't find a single trend in it.

(I have to say I'm amazed by how many metal and heavy rock fans there are here BTW! I can't think of one person I know who is almost exclusively into metal, and yet here we seem to have loads!)

However, if I had to say a single band that I would hate to never hear again, or see play live again, then for me it's R.E.M. I absolutely love them, plus even my forum-name is the title of one of their songs.

That's a great song. I see your name all the time but never made the connection. I think they were much better in the 80s and 90s though. I have 12 -13 of their albums but not sure if I'm gonna get the new one.

I have 39.5 gigs of music in iTunes (cant wait for a 64 gig iPhone) and 301 artists so it hard to pick a favorite.

I like everything from Metal/hardcore/punk to classic rock to blues to jazz to alternative rock/new wave to techo some dance and v.little rap.

I don't like country music especially new country it's to twangy and drives me crazy. Though I do like Cash and willie nelson and some other classic country.

As a musician myself, I have such an eclectic music taste that it borders on insane.

The following are just some of my favorites tunes (off the top of my head):

The entire Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky (dont know why, but I never get tired of this work)
Lady in Red - Chris DeBurg (absolute favorite 80's song)
Rose Colored Glasses - John Conlee (favorite older country song)
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (perfectly blended sonic experience)
1984 album - Van Halen (I have a secret man crush on David Lee Roth, this album makes me want to jump up and do the splits over the drums!)
Empire album - Queensryche (Favorite album of all time. The planets were in alignment the days they recorded this)
Drifting - Andy McKee (fellow Kansan and unbelievable acoustic guitar player)
Papa George - Tommy Emmanuel (to quote Chet Adkins "Tommy Emmanuel is the greatest guitar player that has ever lived")
If Tommorrow Never Comes - Garth Brooks (a perfect ballad to highlight an artist that crossed the borders to appeal to non-country music people)

I am a product of the 80's and still love most all 80's music with a heavy leaning towards the "hair bands". There were so many great one hit wonders back then.

I like just about every rock song accept for thrash and speed metal (if I cant under stand the singer/lyrics the music is crap)Stop growling into the mike and SING!. ... oh and Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones (I hate the both of them). I also have very little use for Rap "music". There are a few old school groups that I still listen to once in a while and some tunes arent too bad (Eminem for example) but for me, sampling a hit song from the past and talking over it with a heavy bass line ISN'T music. Aritist that wrist original tunes and rhymes are gonna get more respect, from me. See Digital Underground....

"for those about to rock... I salute you!" :)

Was listening to the 20th anniversary double album a couple of days ago - such an underappreciated album relative to Operation Mindcrime

I really need to get that 20th anniversary set. Operation Mindcrime was/is a great album. The concept, storyline and music is really great.... but for my own personal taste, Empire is so much more polished and refined. There is only 1 track on the whole album that I really dont care all that much for. Thats really hard to say for most other albums. Some that come to mind are 1984, The Cult - Electric, AC/DC black album, Extreme - Pornograffiti.....

It's too bad that DeGarmo left Queensryche, because it pretty evident that his contribution was 75% of the sound that they had. Thier later offerings just don't do it for me.

Agree on all fronts.

Rage for Order is the only other Queensryche album in my rotation.

While I couldn't possibly endorse it, I think that you'll find that the 20th anniversary set is available via torrent.
