@Driver8, I asked my sister for an Exciter album for my birthday a couple of years ago, and she called me back to check because she thought I meant the album Exciter by Depeche Mode and was concerned about my musical tastes

I now have this vision of you listening to Haircut One Hundred's greatest hits - which is a CD single I assume

Exciter is a million miles away from the Modes best work. 101, Violator are both superb, but Songs Of Faith And Devotion is their best work by far. It's amazing what a heroin addition did for Dave Gahan's music!

Oh yeah Haircut 100, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, Thomson Twins..... get in there!

To be fair I actually have a VERY wide ranging taste in music so I actually also have a few of the metal bands you mentioned above too.

No idea, but the businessman at home on the ranch rocking out to Dragonforce just didn't click!

Valley of the Damned is one of the best metal albums of the last 10 years. Despite all the accusastions about them having to speed up the tracks in the studio, those guys can flat out play.

Being a little younger than you learned gentlemen (born 1980) I was subjected to the likes of Shakin' Stevens and Chas 'n' Dave as a child and had absolutely no decent music to appreciate during my very early teens, thus fell back on the Beatles and so forth.

Born on the Isle of Wight, I had a very, very narrow perception of the world until I went to Cardiff and met my now-wife who was a metaller. I put a lot of effort into learning about metal (to pull), grew to love it and then one day, on a music forum, somebody posted Dragonforce as a youtube 'funny'. I laughed at the cheese-vid and jokingly bought her Inhuman Rampage as a laugh at how twiddly-for-twiddly's-sake metal can get. She loved it and to rub it in, put it on every time I was in the car. Silly woman lost it after 3 weeks.

She doesn't need to know its still in my car...

Another great album - Ultra Beatdown is the third of their 'great' albums. I am not completely convinced by the way that some of the metal has evolved in the last decade or so, and Dragonforce are clearly taking advantage of bands like Gamma Ray and the later Blind Guardian stuff, but I personally find it very refreshing compared to some of the more popular music these days.

And of course the worst metal album ever made is still far superior to Chas 'n' Dave

Sounds like somebody has forgotten their roots. 'Rabbit' is, and always will be, a national treasure.
