Been stupid busy this week so not seen any play yet but congrats to young Agar. Astonishing performance on debut for a number 11. Would have been great if he'd got his century before holing out.

KP and Cook both out. A very slender lead of 66. I feel a collapse coming on.....

I think this has 1-0 to the Aussies written all over it.

I can't see any of Englands bowlers getting 98...................or even 9.8 at the moment.

Never underestimate the ability of this Aussie team to collapse. The proverbial deck chairs.

Well always the chance we might once again see the body of English cricket once again cremated and the ashes taken way to Australia ;)

Welcome Sharkman, I was wondering when you'd join in the banter :D

Another good start by the Aussie bowling attack but I wouldn't ask for the fat lady yet. If you remove a couple of our key batsmen early anything could happen. Apparently the wicket looks like a road but doesn't act like one. Not what I would have expected but good for the bowlers to get a chance.

This is becoming a real rollercoaster. 301-6 now near the end of the day - looks like England back on top. However just saw the catch that wasn't given - Broad to Clarke at 1st slip, horrible umpiring and to be honest, not the best sportsmanship from Broad who must have known that Australia were out of challenges.

I've not seen the Broad "non-catch" yet but I've heard about it. No great from a sportsmanship perspective, but still a good ship-steadying knock from Broad there. I'd like to say the England lads are back on top, but one wicket can change everything.....and England's tail hasn't been known to wag very vigorously (or very often). Still quite finely balanced I reckon. Could be an interesting day tomorrow. Gotta love the Ashes!

I prefer it when batsmen walk but [1] the Aussies know they can't cry foul since they (overwhelmingly, though props to Gilchrist) don't (and they certainly won't now!), [2] both the Agar (out) and Trott (not out) calls went in their favour yesterday, and these things have a habit of evening themselves out, and [3] the DRS is there precisely to compensate for obvious umpiring errors, but Clarke had no reviews left because he'd gambled trying to get LBW not outs overturned.

I really rate Aleem Dar in particular but the umps have had a shocker this test: Agar was clearly stumped on 6 but they blew the call. And lest this sounds too (English) partisan, I was absolutely rooting for him to reach the ton and gutted when he holed out.

But yes, poor sportsmanship and regrettable.

Yeah, the difference between Agar and Broad is that Agar had no way of knowing if his foot was back. Broad clearly smashed that ball. I'm in two minds about walking. At one level Kevin Pieterson is right: every batsman has the right to wait for the Umpire's decision (and in a perverse way it undermines the Umpire to take that decision away from him by walking).

At another level, you know you're in trouble when Kevin Pieterson is your moral defender! We watch sport because we want to see something we can admire. In that light i really admire Adam Gilchrist. It's also why that great Australian team of the 90s/ 2000s was acknowledged by the Australian public for their skill but never really loved. They won, but they often won by doing things like sledging. People like Ricky Ponting and Matt Hayden disgraced us almost as often as they enthralled us.

Having said that; we ought to start a thread on great cricket sledges. Some truly hilarious ones out there.

Indeed. I remember someone from that era commenting that if you watched Gilchrist when an opposing batsman made a century he would take care to murmur his congratulations when none of his team-mates would hear!

Absolutely, but the really good ones are unrepeatable on here!

Merv Hughes obviously tops the sledging ladder.

My fave to Gooch: 'If I bowl a piano next time maybe you'll finally be able to play something'

Eddo Brandes to Glenn McGrath is the famous one, though you'll need to Google it.

A fave of mine was Daryl Cullinan to Warnie. Cullinan had been Warne's bunny to such a degree that he'd lost his place in Sth Africa's side. On his return...

Warnie... "I've been waiting three years for this moment."
Cullinan... "Looks like you spent it eating."
