Thanks Robert.

Maybe at a high level but at the bottom of the pile! Ha ha.

Mario (In2Deep) has given me an idea for a little photo project - to take photos of a 'Ling(s) on an F1 steering wheel!

Well I was inspecting bits for the wheel again today and another guy was checking the wheel itself. Trouble is they don't have a complete one yet so will have to wait a bit. Have seen the following bits so far:

Wheel
Centre cover
Paddles & levers for clutch & gearchange etc
Thumbwheels (x4) for various controls
Covers and switches for the thumbwheels

I have been asking to borrow 1 for an hour or so but the first 2 or 3 will be whisked away to the car build area quite quickly. I'll get there, even if I have to borrow one from last year!

Watch this space :camera:

Well no photos yet - the cars are away at testing so it will have to wait 'till next week - hopefully things will be calm at the weekend so I can get some shots.

Launch pics can be viewed here if anyone is interested:

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/photos/2009 ... o_01.shtml

There's a video of the testing too here:

http://multimedia.f1-live.com/f1/en/vid ... p?num=2830

If it gets moved it's easy enough to find again.

The shakedown - last week at a circuit in Italy - and the testing at Barcelona have been quite exciting and have resulted in some unexpected things which I can't go into (yes I know - what a tease) but I think the car will be quite fast when all the bugs are sorted out. An interesting season is just round the corner!

Pics to follow..............

Thanks guys - yes I actually am enjoying this job. Ask my wife - that's quite unusual!

The testing was a bit last minute so no one really knows how the cars will perform in Australia at the end of the month. There are a lot of little mods going on at the moment but the cars and the spares etc are pretty much packed up ready to fly out on Thursday the 19th (10 days before the race).

Apparently it is quite normal for staff to be asked to fly out and deliver parts right up to a couple of days before the race - don't suppose I'll get the chance but will be ready to go if needed, never been to Australia!

The 2 cars ended up 14th and 17th after the 4 days in Barcelona - not too bad considering it was the first long test of a brand new car. www.f1-live.com is pretty good for all the stats, video etc.

Well - still working on getting some pics but not having much luck - it's too hectic for them to worry about 1 bloke wanting a few photos. I'll keep trying tho' and will post them as soon as I can.

Keep watching.

Yes - great paint job.

Here's another pic which also shows the wheel which I've been trying to get my hands on (so to speak).

Maybe once they've gone off to Australia it will be easier - so mad just now, worked 6 am to 7.30 pm today!

Takes so long to upload these pics on my mobile connection - I'll add more when there's time.

10 days to Race Day!

Hey BB, how's the KERS setup holding up? I heard the early versions could have potentially electrocuted drivers and mechanics!

The STR team have announced that the KERS won't be used in Australia for sure but it may get introduced after that.

There is the potential for the problems you mention - apart from Williams I think who have a mechanical system (someone correct me if I'm wrong - it may be some other team).

There have been incidents with drivers and mechanics getting zapped but there will be safety features which should stop this.

Just between you and me the gear for this looks like it came off a tractor! It will be good to see it in action tho' - 6.7 sec burst of an extra 80 bhp, once a lap!

As I said before - an interesting season is coming up.

Really looking forward to the season - and the new rules on wins for the championship should help overtaking (at least for the lead).

Is the KERS still going to be on the car for Australia - i.e. do you still need it to meet the weight minimum?

As far as I know the KERS equipment does not need to be fitted or carried by the car if not being used. Therefore there is no weight penalty.

The cars weight is to be made public before the race though and this will let teams know who is running with the KERS and who is not! Also this will allow other teams to know the fuel load used for qualifying and then figure out the strategy being used in any particular race.

It will bring it all back to the skill of the driver - excellent!

Well - what do you guys think of the first round of the season?

Great for Toro Rosso to get the last 2 point scoring places - shame one was on a technicality but that's how it goes.

Bonus for Lewis to get decent points as his car is not up to scratch yet.

Amazing finish for Brawn GP - really pleased for them - one of the guys I work with knows Ross Brawn through his parents and says he's a really nice guy. I'm pleased for Richard Branson too - I have a lot of time for that bloke so he deserves the reward of a good weekend.

Buemi gets a couple of points in his first ever GP - STR get 3 points and are 6th in the table. Red Bull (larger, sister team) and Ferrari (local rivals) get nil points and are being lead by one of the smallest teams on the circuit. No doubt this will change over the course of the season but for now there's quite a buzz at work. Can't quote my boss (in mixed company) but they don't care how they get their points!

So - countdown to next weekend - not much feedback from the race team but a pat on the back (from the big boss) to everyone who had a hand in the car this season - they both made full race distance and got points as a bonus.
