I go to Vegas way more than id care to admit and have stayed almost everywhere, and the most beautiful hotel is the Wynn by a wide margin. Its pricey, but its crazy nice. Bang for the buck, as a couple, I think youd love the Bellagio. Id rank it tied for 2nd along with the Ventian (another nice option, but pricey). I stayed at the Aria a while ago and didnt like it too much. Not very lively or romantic--sort of dull. Its very new and high tech though. Not a bad option if you get a good deal. MGM Grand is probably the best value overall. Its big, lively, entertaining, and nice. Planet Hollywood is a newer place and its pretty fun too. Paris is okay, not a real standout though. I havent stayed at the Cosmo, but my friends did and they said it was really nice. I dont think they have a casino though. Mandalay Bay is also really nice, particularly THE Hotel, but its usually over priced and its a short cab ride to the happening part of the strip.

Dont stay off the strip unless you leave your wife at home and want to party at the Palms or the Hard Rock. The Rio is decent enough, but I wouldnt bother since its nothing special and its way off the strip. Of course, also avoid anything downtown unless you want your wife to hate you.

Other places I would avoid would be Excalibur, Tropicana, NY NY, Monte Carlo, Ceasars, Circus Circus...some are total dumps (read: circus circus), Cheesy (NYNY), ghetto (Ceasars - although you definitely have to shop there) or dont really stand out among the crowd (Monte Carlo).

Id suggest checking out fatwallet.com and looking at the vegas hotel promo thread and you can usually find really good coupon codes for MGM owned properties. You should be able to get a really good deal for the Bellagio.

The Wynn is more elegant than Bellagio. But there is something special about Bellagio. It is open and roomy and the rooms themselves are well done without being over the top Don't like MGM at all. It's where all the grandmothers stay and I've never stayed at a more crowded place. You can easily spend 20 minutes waiting on an elevator. The rooms suck.

I think it is time for a poll??

Looks like some friends and I are trying Vdara for an NCAA tournament trip--sweet 16 not first weekend, due to everybody's kids' spring break. Same conundrum a lot of people have--how much to spend on a room when the plan is to not spend much time there, and Vdara, as of Thursday, was under $200. When I'm on that kind of a trip, with the guys, price and central location matter a little more. Doesn't bother me if the hotel doesn't have a casino, if the hotel is centrally located. In fact, if the weather's not too hot, I prefer it--I think you get fewer goofballs screaming up and down the halls at 3 a.m. That's why I'd probably stay at Monte Carlo again, though it's been several years.

Room-wise, I've stayed at Encore and the Palazzo. Encore seemed more elegant but I liked the Palazzo room better. Still haven't made it to Bellagio. Sometime if my wife and I go up there I'd like to stay there in a lakeside room. Rooms in the other hotels where I have stayed (Mandalay, MGM, Monte Carlo, Luxor, TI, NYNY, Mirage, Trump) don't compare IMHO.

I keep checking this topic to see if a poll has been added.

I agree that its not the greatest, but with rooms regularly in the $60-70 range, I dont think theres a better value out there. Ive never had the elevator problem though.

:yeahthat

Usually when I go I stay where my wallet tells me to stay. Because it always wants to "play" outside. I can't justify paying 200+ for a room that I'm only going to use for 4-5 hours of sleeping and showering.

That is kinda my point for this visit... It's purely a trip of walking around/shopping etc... I'm not vacationing and relaxing really. However, I don't want to stay in complete $hit either. The way I am looking at it is... what ever I can save on a room, the more fun i'll have spending money on "fun" things. That is why I am thinking about something in the $150 (or less) range. When I stayed at the Mirage two years back, it was nice but not amazing by any means, so it a perfect contender for this trip. I would rather save a $100 a night staying somewhere nice (and NOT Amazing) and spend the money I save at an amazing dinner later.
