I'm not much of a home theatre kind of guy... I'm more into the 2-channel stereo. I just find the improvements much better and worth the money :) I will be adding an HT room in the new house however with a 60" LCD likely and possibly some new Pre/Pro and Multichannel Amp combo like the B&K or Anthem stuff and maybe go with Focal/JM Lab for the speakers.

For Home Theatre I have a 42" Samsung Plasma that I bought about 3 years ago, Yamaha 6-Channel Receiver of some sort, Klipsch Speakers all the way around except for the Sub, which is an Energy Sub of some sort.

Admin. if you are going to have a dedicate HT, I strongly suggest against a large TV. I would get a really good quality projector and screen. That would run you about half the cost at double the quality and triple the size. The panasonic HD home projectors are fantastic, the Au2000 is just mind blowing.

A flat panel's only advantage is usability in bright light conditions, but since it is a HT room a projector is a much better investment.

As for the AV reciever, I am getting the Sony STR-DA5300ES to replace my JVC. Saw it in action and just....wow.

Alien13, forget the Oppo. DVD is old technology! Get the Playstation 3. DVD, Blu Ray, and an excellent media center for your computer plus upconverting!!!

Admin I agree with Altair, if the room will be dedicated then the best option is a projector. But one of the most important things you need to keep in mind while choosing among different brands and models (of course in addition to projection quality) is the noise emission. As all projectors must have powerful fans to cool down the bulb most of them tend to be noisy in a HT setup, which will have a drastic effect especially in quiet scenes.

Altair, so what is better and more elegant, the dedicated Sony blu ray player or a PS3?

I think the PS3 is a great value Blue Ray player at $599.00! I also like its black lacquer design. Of course I may be biased because I am addicted to playing online football (NOT Soccer!).

like admin, i'm more of a 2-channel fan and until i can go down the processor/preamp/poweramp route i'm sticking to 2 (high-quality) channels. as i'm in my early 20's i'm still living at home but when i move out i hope to get a fully fledged home cinema system (hopefully krell, chord, meriden or mcintosh)

Heres a poor quality pic- it looks much better in real life guys
