Cars: When I got my license, cars were just the means of transportation. But when I got to drive my friends sports car for the first time everything changed. I felt totally connected to the car. The whole time it was feeding me very detailed information through my body about the road, speed, direction and it´s limits. I was hooked! I could not believe a car could do that. I´ve been a car nut ever since.

Hifi (music & movies): I was sixteen when a friend played me music on his brand spanking stereo set. It sounded pure and natural. I closed my eyes and I couldn`t place the speakers or where the music was actually coming from. But I noticed every small detail in the song for the first time. I could pinpoint where every istrument was playing on a stage in front of me. I could swear there was somebody playing a acoustic guitar and other instruments. The fact that I couldn´t hear or find any artificial elements in the reproduction of the sounds coming from the set was even a little unnerving. But it felt smooth like honey. So I´ve always had a nice basic hifi set to enjoy.

Interior design: Over the years this has grown to be my biggest passion. For most a messy, cluttered and unpurposful home creates stress. I believe a home should be your fortress and the source of strength. What ever else is going in your world, it should be the one place that always provides us a place of well being, relaxation and a source of energy. Good design goes along way in helpng to achieve all that. I don´t believe in feng shui stuff, but to create a stress relieving and relaxing home you need the right proportiones, balance and harmony. After a hard day coming home is my favourite part of the day. At home all the stress and cares just fade away and I can recharge my batteries in peace for the next battle.

My wife: She actually is my biggest passion. I can´t believe how lucky I am to have her by my side. And after all that rant about design. She is what makes our house a home! And all the afformentioned passions I get to share with her as she has the same intrests. Go figure?

I was big into the gym, but 11 years ago basically on a whim I bought a metal detector, something I had interest in since I was about 12 years old. You want to talk about addictive! How addictive, I was a heavy drinker in my late teens and especially 20s, and even when I slowed down I had the little demon voice whispering to me. Metal detecting gave me something else to do and shut that little %^%^ ^%^^ up, only now looking back do I really see what a strangle hold it had on me. So I say fight addiction with addiction, just make what you're changing to something positive. :uplaugh:

Here's a few pictures. We've found everything from Revolutionary War buttons, Colonial coppers, rare tokens, War of 1812 relics, Spanish silver, Cannon balls, and the list goes on. Going to a park or the beach I have no interest in, but this stuff is a rush to find.

PS... A "few" drinks aren't a bad thing. :D

I'd have to call running my business my major passion- not much point doing it if it wasn't.

Not so long ago I would have also said weekend and evening flying and golf, snowboarding and classic car tinkering. Since our daughter's birth however, my days are generally; up early with baby, work, get home, dinner, baby bedtime, work, bed.

I seem to have absolutely no time for other frivolities at the moment and I wouldn't change a thing.

Give it another year....

Had to diminish my collections since I've got married, my daughter and wife have the priority now but:

Safety cards of airliners around the world (I will gladly accept any from members here )
Books
Aircraft (military or civilian) spotting
BMW related items

and not in that particular order.

Fishing, fishing and more fishing. From freshwater to saltwater, I love it.
I also play a lot of racquetball, bit of tennis and golf, try to workout but often can't find motivation. I've also kept aquariums for years. I have a 125 gallon reef tank at my office and a 240 cichlid tank at home. Oh yeah, and cars. I'm into land rovers and NSX's.

Let's see:

Cars--can't collect much with a family, but still love my Jag.

Scotch--In fact, breaking out the 22 year old (bottle, that is) for a drink in memory of automotive journalist David E. Davis, Jr., who I just found out passed away last month.

American College Football--A complete nut over it, and my Alma Mater, the University of Iowa, has had good teams in recent years.

Fountain pens: This predated the watches. Have a Dupont, a Parker Duofold, a Delta, two Auroras, a Waterman and some miscellany.

Getting back into golf a bit too, that may become the next thing now that I have totally revamped the watch collection in the past two months (more to come on that, and a few to sell)

Besides my watch obsession, I am a woodturner. I spend as much time as possible at the wood lathe and am even going to St Paul, in June, for the American Association of Woodturners, national symposium. Can't wait. Any other time is spent trying to hatch out a way to make more money and continue my plan to retire at 55 (14 years left.... and going by fast).

Here is my fanciest piece to date (9 different turnings and 15+ hours):
