They have reformed, they played three gigs in July, two in the UK and one in Germany. Maybe some in 2010. I saw both the Wolverhampton and Brum concerts and they were fantastic. Couple of links to them, not the best quality but maybe out on DVD next year.

To be honest I can't even limit this to a single genre of music, let alone a single band, as I have a seriously wide taste in music. I have around 11,000 songs on my iPod, and you wouldn't find a single trend in it.

(I have to say I'm amazed by how many metal and heavy rock fans there are here BTW! I can't think of one person I know who is almost exclusively into metal, and yet here we seem to have loads!)

However, if I had to say a single band that I would hate to never hear again, or see play live again, then for me it's R.E.M. I absolutely love them, plus even my forum-name is the title of one of their songs.

Thanks for that!

Let's hope that the DVD is available in our format. I struggle to find any of the decent albums by people like Jaguar and the Tygers over here - even for download.

Lots of great choices so far.

Artist - Clapton, hands down it's Slowhand.

Band - The Stones (and a host of others tied for second - Floyd, etc...)

Thus my only piece of R&R memorabilia -

This is a hard one for me, since I love my music, and like Driver8 said, I couldn't pick a genre, let alone a band. These days I find myself listening to alternative and electronica-type stuff... Bands I'm loving lately:

- VAST
- She Wants Revenge
- The Postal Service
- Hot Chip
- OK Go

A couple of classics I love that no iPod should be without (but were already mentioned): U2, REM, Metallica.

And finally, bands I can't not like because they represent my mis-spent youth: Linkin Park, Sum 41, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Pink, Blink 182.

...I really like a lot of different music. Probably I listen to rap/r&b/country the least, but there are definitely artists (Eminem, Beyonce, Garth Brooks) whose albums have found their way into the CD player over the years...

As a fan of most before mentioned metal bands, my friend introduced me to Steel Panther. That genre will never be the same again. It´s such a horribly bad joke that it´s good. Listening to them m reaction is something like

The title of this thread seems to presuppose we're talking about rock/popular music. Still, I at least have to mention that first and foremost I'm a classical music fan, primarily of the classical/post-classical/romantic eras. Favorite composers include (in no particular order) Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Bach, Grieg, etc. Favorite conductors include Carlos Kleiber, Herbert von Karajan, and Leonard Bernstein, among many others. Favorite pianists: Krystian Zimerman, Maurizio Pollini, Sviatoslav Richter. And then there's Pavarotti. I considered wearing a black band the day he died, although I didn't, cuz that's just not my style. But it's the thought that counts.

For rock, I like the Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon solo, U2, Duran Duran, the Police, Prince, Genesis, George Michael, and so on. It would be impossible to pick a single favorite. Although there are exceptions, generally if an artist or group got started after 1990, there's a good chance I won't like him/her/them.

I'm also a big Sinatra fan, although my interest is limited primarily to his Capitol Records era. Before that, he hadn't hit his stride, and he quickly went past his prime once he started recording for Reprise.

Also, some jazz: Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Blakey's Messengers, Wynton Marsalis, some Monk.
