I stole this from Edmunds....

"Of course, with cars in this super-sedan category it's all about performance. And in this case, the performance potential borders on mind-boggling. For starters, the 556-horsepower, 6.2-liter supercharged V8 under the hood allows the portly 4,300-pound CTS-V to rip from zero to 60 mph in a tad over 4 seconds. It also helps the CTS-V top every other high-performance production sedan we've ever tested through the quarter-mile. Moreover, the rigid chassis and sophisticated electronically controlled suspension give the Caddy equally impressive handling. For proof, look no further than our recent super-sedan comparison test, in which the CTS-V edged out the legendary BMW M5 around the racetrack.

What seals the deal, however, is the bang for the buck this compact Caddy delivers. While we're just as fond of the comparably priced BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, it's hard to argue with the CTS-V's combination of world-class performance and passenger space, which makes it competitive with far pricier rivals like the M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG."

Love the outgoing M5. That v10 growl is something else. There's a well known E30 M3 from the states that has shoehorned that motor into it plus twin turbos.

. I love all the M BMWs, this one, the E30, I really like as I remember seeming it racing in rallys on closed public roads in Ireland. This would has been one of the last serious rear wheel drive cars used before 4 wheel drive took over. Oh the noise of one them flat out was some thing else!. . . It took some skill to drive one of these tail happy M3s flat out down small country roads. .

They each have their own feel. My fav out of the bunch is the Vette. It has a lot of mods done do it, and its def the quickest out of the bunch since it weighs much less than the other 2 cars. The M5 is probable the best everyday car since it has every single amenity you would want in a car and the V10 just sounds with awesome with the Dinan exhaust. The V is quicker than M5 and with a few mods it will be quicker than Vette since it is has the same engine but with a supercharger.

for sure.. the S8 is equally as impressive as the R8. When do you see a 520 hp Lamborghini V10 in a 4 door saloon?!?

But the S8 isn't all that quick amongst high performance luxury cars...I own a Mercedes S600 (not even the performance model!) and it's got a 5.5 litre, twin turbo V12. 0-60 is as quick as an M5 (4.5secs) but doesn't handle quite as well.

The best bit is that it doesn't look that quick, but off the lights you will make unsuspecting passengers brown their trousers...

Yeah, you're right, the S8 isn't the quickest, but it is impressive. The S600 is a great car, I own a CLS 55 and it gets on as well. I own a few cars that aren't the best or baddest in their class, but I enjoy them for the passion. I have been working on my Mopar collection a little more recently, here's a picture of the ones that are done. We have two more that are in the works of restoration. (My dad owns the yellow Super Bee & the '68 GTX)
