TO include that snivelling little whiner in the same post as Gretzky is as offensive as it is absurd. Were it not for rules that have recently (in the last 15 years) turned hockey from a rough but noble sport played by similar men into an ice ballet with penalties for mismatched socks, Crosby would not be fit to rinse the sweat from Gretzky's jock strap. To make no mention of how he would size up to Gordie Howe. Sid the Kid, indeed.

wow ! not kind words for a kid who at 22 years old has accomplished way more than most people can ever dream of. as i do agree that gretzky is the great one.and will never be replaced. i understand some peoples bitterness towards crosby.(maybe jelous, because he dominates,or because he burned the u.s fans) but no need to put down a kid with talents that go beyond hockey!after those harsh words i almost feel like buying crosby a breitling myself ! (but unfortunatly i cant aford it)but hope my point was absorbed! whether it be gretzky, crosby, orr ovechkin,AVERY,ETC i dont think anyone should shoot them down!

And that, in a nutshell, is the joy of sport. We can argue voraciously over things of no real consequence and both be 100% correct in our own minds.

Bonedoc I'm with you all the way!!! The game is very soft now. I still am old time hockey. I have been a fan since 1960 and things have changed alot. Sid is ok now but years ago they would have eaten him alive.

Crosby and company would skate circles around the old school hockey players but Sid and Co. would get their asses handed to em on a silver platter if they ever got into a fight with one of the old school players...Cam Neilly, Lyndon Byers Etc.. Why do you think Gretzky never fought....because he was skilled beyond his time!!!!

Well, that and the fact that if anyone looked at Gretzky wrong, McSorely was all over them.

And we cannot forget Jay Miller and "The Bomber" Ken Baumgartner....I met those guys and they were all some big boys. Mcsorley off the ice was a very calm quiet guy, but look out on the ice!!!!

Well, in those days the hits were such that one could not skate that freely. The fights and hits kept people honest and allowed an outlet of the natural frustration of the game. You did not see the diving, cheap stick fouls and the like because if you pulled that stuff you got pounded. Like I said, kept you honest. go back in the days and all the super stars had a protector, or were one themselves (Gordie.) Gretzky had McSorley, Yzerman had Probert and Kocur, Lemieux largely had himself due to size etc... Crosby would require and impressive protector which would dramatically change his game due to the precipitous decrease in the number of cherry-pickable feeds he would get. To compare players and their skills now to then under completely different rules is not intellectually honest.

Cam Neely didn't need an enforcer. He was quite capable on his own of scoring a goal and right afterward laying out the other team's resident goon.

Any thoughts on how Matt Cooke will make out next Thursday night?

I read an article a few weeks ago on boston.com about Michelle Kwan going to graduate school in the Boston area , I wonder if she is as lovely in person as she was in those pictures.
