I have always loved the A-10 Warthog.
Cool name for an angry bird. Gets there slow, but kicks serious A$$ when it does!

First thing off the top of my head is the SR-71 Blackbird. Purely for the standard missile avoidance..

speed up! :guns:

I've also always really liked learjets for two reasons. One is that I just think they look elegant, and have a touch of class to them. And two, I might actually get to pilot one!

Concorde!

Regular supersonic flight across the Atlantic @ Mach 2 ... roughly 23 miles per minute and around 9 miles above the earth's surface.

spooky. that is my exact list as well.

P.S. i love civilian "heavies" and while many love the 777 and the A380, i never tire of the pure "majesty" of a 747-400. just magnificent.

My Farther use to be in the RAF as a propulsion technician. Now works for British Aerospace still working on Tornadoes and soon the new Eurofighters.

I always rember the noise of a Tornado with the after burners on..... made my hair on the back of my neck stand up! Awesome machine! My Favourite by a mile!!

I don't think you'll find Richard Branson is to blame for that! If you've ever read about BA's dirty tricks back in Branson's early days even through to the Concorde issue, you'd understand why I never fly with BA!!

As an aside, here are a couple of pics of my favourite aircraft taken last weekend at RAF Fairford.

Apart from these, I think the Spitfire and Lancaster Bomber probably rank near the top of my list.

And if you read 'Branson' by Tom Bower you'll get a whole other alternative story...well worth a read for those who believe Branson can do no wrong.

Branson's Concorde scheme was a PR generating, backstab at BA, crock of shit. He didn't have the money, the technical staff (BA ones wouldn't have done it for him), the CoA was being withdrawn, oh and the Airbus support too. BA were actually quite keen to keep the aircraft flying for them as it was generating profit but Air France weren't and the economies of scale wouldn't have worked BA if they were the sole operator.

Branson's hope was to either make BA look the bad guy (again!) or in the extremely tiny percentage chance he managed to get hold of the aircraft he'd have had them painted up in Virgin liveries and then claimed the project was a non-starter. Then he has amongst the world's most recognised planes in museums worldwide with his company's name on the side and he's 1up'd his nemesis.
